Why does a supposedly commercial company, TikTok, engage in political warfare If I were a shareholder of TikTok, I would say a divesture would be great. The ongoing geopolitical situation shed such uncertainty that TikTok could not have a capital realization event, IPO, without divesture. But, mgt of TikTok is taking orders from ByteDance, not shareholders. And, you know who is giving orders to mgt of ByteDance. So why does CCP want TikTok to fight this to the bitter end? This front page article by China Journalist Asso, in 2020, gave some good insights why CCP is hellbent on controlling this implant in the US society “How to understand the important position and role of the work of the press and public opinion?” zgjx.cn/2020-04/08/c_1 Some relevant quotes here shed light on CPP logic: - “Public opinion is at the forefront of the ideological sphere and has a significant impact on the spiritual life of society and people's ideology. Public opinion has always been an important force influencing social development. Any political party must do a good job of public opinion if it is to seize and hold power and achieve long-term peace and stability.” - “Comrade Mao Tse-tung emphasized, "The Communist Party can only defeat the enemy with a leaflet in the left hand and a gun and bullet in the right."” - Jiang Zhemin “The Party's journalism is in solidarity with the Party and is part of its life." "Public opinion work is ideological and political work, work on which the future and destiny of the Party and the country depend.” - “People's heart is the biggest politics. Public opinion influences people through information transmission and guides them through value judgment. It can be said that public opinion is a key force in shaping the direction of people's hearts and minds.” Xi made a speech on Feb 19, 2016, about media control. It’s deemed so important that it has been commemorated annually since. In it, he stated “The media sponsored by the Party and the Government is the propaganda position of the Party and the Government, and must belong to the Party. All aspects and segments of news and public opinion work must adhere to the correct orientation. All the work of the Party's news and public opinion media must embody the Party's will and reflect the Party's propositions, enhance the sense of alignment, and maintain a high degree of consistency with the Party Central Committee in ideology, politics and action; it must be conducive to the consolidation of the guiding position of Marxism in the field of ideology….” CCP believes it seized China in large part by commanding the public opinion high ground. It has always placed utmost importance on control of the media. CCP equivalates TikTok going independent with losing control of its implant in the U.S. society. This is an all-or-nothing warfare for CCP.
