I've tried to save a few X (FKA Twitter) posts in the Wayback Machine. The archiving succeeds, but when I try to view them, after a long pause, I only see the message "Something went wrong, but don’t fret — it’s not your fault." The original X page still works, however. Some examples…

Also, when I saved those pages, I requested screenshots, but they don't appear here.

I suspect X is doing something to prevent archive.org from saving the posts. Like maybe they're not responding to HTTP requests from that domain or that browser type.

Interestingly, I was able to archive the same pages on archive.is.

Has anybody been successful in archiving X posts lately? If not, does anybody know why it fails?

It's also always possible to do the archiving manually with screenshots. Many web browsers support screenshotting the whole webpage at once too

ive also had the same problem, the one time ive tried to save a tweet nothing showed up (even though the post was made recently at the time) and that was in november, its not quite exactly the same problem as yours i think but its still interesting

it is probably elon trying to prevent them being saved because i do remember reading about elon making posts ONLY be visable with a twitter account including archive, but i dont know why on another site it worked (probably missed it is my guess)

(take that w a grain of salt cuz i remember seeing it on twitter and everyone freaking out but i havent seen any proof of it exactly but it seems like the most logical thing)

Thanks for the response. It's helpful to get some confirmation, even if the situation is slightly different. I think you're right that Musk wants to limit access to posts. It's a little strange, since he brags so much about being open and supporting freedom of speech. I've archived tweets in the past (mostly from notorious politicians) and it worked, but that may have been before Musk took over or made changes.
