WCK prepares to ship aid by sea to Gaza
World Central Kitchen teams are in Cyprus loading pallets of humanitarian aid onto a boat headed to northern Gaza. We have been preparing for weeks alongside our trusted NGO partner Open Arms for the opening of a maritime aid corridor that would allow us to scale our efforts in the region. We are also working with the United Arab Emirates, Cyprus, and the international community in this initiative that will help ensure as many meals as possible reach Palestinian families facing starvation.
WCK has provided more than 32 million meals to people in Gaza. We have dispatched thousands of trucks full of meals, water, and cooking equipment. Our team has participated in airdrops of meals into hard-to-reach northern Gaza. Now, the opening of a maritime aid corridor would immediately allow us to scale our efforts.
José and WCK have been tirelessly pushing to establish faster, more reliable entry for food aid going to Palestinian families in Gaza. “We need to shoot for the moon because anywhere we fall is worth the effort,” said José.
Our team in Cyprus is loading desperately-needed supplies—rice, flour, legumes, canned vegetables, and canned proteins—onto the Open Arms boat. From Cyprus, the supplies will make the journey to northern Gaza, after clearing an Israeli security checkpoint.
WCK teams are constantly pushing to reach as many Palestinains in need as possible. “With incredibly limited access into Gaza, WCK has been exploring and pushing for greater entry points for many months now. Food is desperately needed and we are pleased to see the maritime corridor opening, however, the focus must remain on even more access points to allow humanitarian aid to flow. World Central Kitchen is ready to do so much more,” said Erin Gore, WCK’s Chief Executive Officer.
