I misinterpreted 「焼却処分」 as destruction of Shouma instead of incineration of the diary. Kind of a dumb mistake, but I really didn’t think she meant the diary… how can you have the time burn it when a guy’s trying to steal it from you by force? But then again, it’s anime.

I really liked how they presented the little moray eel wrapping itself around the sea otter to show they’re slowly taking hold of Ringo’s father in her imagination.
Long sequences of Ringo imaginations since this is another no-Survival-Strategy episode. Need those easy-to-draw, easy-to-animate stuff to save the budget for when it really matters later in this episode. Exactly what happened in the other recycle-less episode, Ep4.
It’s kind of ridiculous how Shouma also gets carried away with his imagination too. Apparently, his hunches are almost always wrong. He would indeed make a nice couple with Ringo.
“Curry-rice-shaped Mont Blanc”. Yes, it looks disgusting.
The original joke was about drinking illicitly manufactured kasutori shōchū after WWII, which in some cases were just methyl alcohol diluted with water. People who drank it just dropped dead or got seriously wasted. That’s why it’s a really appropriate thing for #2 to say in this episode.
“pwnt” is the most appropriate translation here, isn’t it? Especially since I’m with a group named “gg” lol
Once again, the creators of this show are such trolls. Yellow underpants to hide a false censoring? Ringo didn’t get her cherry popped despite the sexy moaning when Shouma pushed her.
They finally go all-out. Sometimes, it’s easier to see flaws in others than yourself. A minor epiphany moment for both.
It was apparent for quite a while that Ringo was just following the diary, but it becomes clear here that her love was a lie. The title of this episode is pretty interesting in that it implies that Shouma would love her despite her flaws. Those two are sort of an obvious couple, but I guess it shows here that he was just being tsundere (actually, tsuntsun) the whole time.
Fate being a “circle” or a “wheel”… It appears to be a confirmation of the “fate is a wheel theory” as I posted earlier.
Biker has boobies.
The biker appears to be Natsume. At least female. But who knows, maybe it was a man in disguise.
Whoever it was, I think this scene is significant in that whoever grabbed Ringo’s diary knew it was going to fall down from the condo. She’d have to prepare this in advance. In other words, the mugger must already have the power to control, or at least predict fate.
The question is, why she didn’t just wait by the sidewalk and grab the whole thing… The only obvious reason I can think of is to get Shouma in an accident.
I really like the art in these two scenes. The use of color in the first screenshot is wonderful. The background is pretty much the color spectrum, yet it retains the gloomy, dreamlike atmosphere instead of a happy rainbow. The shock effect of the way the camera zooms into Ringo and Shouma was equally impressive.
Then Shouma gets hit, and we see insanely smooth animation after we’re using to watching this blurry crap for the whole episode. Impeccable use of buildups, even using animation quality to emphasize the most important and shocking scenes in this episode.
I think Mawaru Penguindrum 08 – Even if Your Love is a Lie, I… was a really slow episode, but the direction (namely, the storyboard and presentation) was excellent. Ringo lets out a whimper right before Shouma pushed her to safety. This kind of attention to detail is why I really love this show. Ringo’s seiyuu was outstanding in this episode as well.
Ringo is a crazy character almost to the point of being comical, but I find myself feeling sorry for her. Why must everything go so horribly wrong for her? I hate the word “fate”.

I also noticed the eel in the intro, probably a reference to the girl that is stealing Ringo’s father. You can tell this story is well thought out: tons of foreshadowing.
Another thought: Because there were things stuffed in the Bed at Tsubuki’s house, that means he must have set it up deliberately. How much does he really know about what is going on with Ringo? Furthermore, if he does know, why did he eat the drugged cake?

Condensed reference to what happened after the fight heading up to the present where the moray eel mother and child pair drag the sea otter to the depths thus dragging him away from the happy family fate predicted/desired by Ringo you think?

Maybe she didn’t want to sneak it away but she wanted to steal it openly and with force.
Seems more likely than her intentionally yet indirectly being responsible for his getting hit.

I guess this is why I really like this series, because it makes me wonder why people do things the way they do.

Posted by Bob_john | September 2, 2011, 11:43 pmThe conversation was carried out in the novel, and it didn’t describe anything about her imagination, so it almost certainly happened. She was depressed over it afterwards too, so it would be pretty freaky if she was depressed over her imagination.
Also the whole Western sequence didn’t exist in the novel. It was just Ringo thinking “I won’t let her have Tabuki for about less than a page. This is why it’s obvious these are done just to save budget for more important scenes. You’ll see that these imagination sequence occur more often when there are no Seizon Senryaku recycle scenes in an episode.

That would make a lot of sense, because in Ringo’s imagination, she stressed how the destiny was on her side, but Yuri getting the second half means she’ll end up with Tabuki instead. If she knew about the diary, it would explain how she prepared curry and bento on the days written on the diary too.
