Opposition forces in Taiwan say that raising defense spending will cause a war with China, that if we do nothing everything will be alright. Populism is a serious threat to our safety. The way forward is to be rational and to show people the facts. The fact is that China’s intolerance of Taiwanese democracy is forcing us to take defense more seriously.
