  • Improve Lighting for Pasadena Chargers Football Organization
For 55 years, the Chargers football organization has been a cornerstone of our Pasadena community. It has served as a positive outlet for our youth, providing exercise, constructive use of time and most importantly, an alternative path for less fortunate kids that need an adequate outlet. All of our Pasadena children deserve the same opportunities to thrive for excellence. Yet there is one significant obstacle standing in their way - inadequate lighting. The lack of proper lighting not only hinders their ability to play but also poses safety risks. According to the National Safety Council (NSC), poor lighting increases the chances of accidents and injuries by up to 60%. This is unacceptable. Our children's safety should be paramount. We cannot allow them to play under conditions that put them at risk or limit their potential growth as athletes and individuals. Therefore, we call on local authorities in Pasadena, MD to provide adequate lighting for our Chargers football organization. By doing so, they will be ensuring that every child who steps onto that field can do so safely and confidently. We urge you all - parents, friends, neighbors - join us in this fight for equality and safety in sports facilities by signing this petition today!Read more

  • Demand the Immediate Removal of Erie County Executive Brenton Davis for Abuse of Power
I am a former county employee, specifically a juvenile counselor at Edmund L. Thomas Adolescent Center in Erie County, PA. My role included advocating for the children and adolescents in the emergency youth shelter and detention center. When I voiced my concerns about the substandard (prison) food the residents were provided, my grievance was not taken seriously.  In my grievance to Brenton Davis I stressed how the inedible food product he approved, provided by Trinity Services Group, not only impacted the well-being of underprivileged youth but also burdened taxpayers.  In response to my concerns he demanded an apology and I was not taken seriously.  He escalated the situation, calling me to his office without any HR representatives in attendance. My advocacy for the basic rights of children resulted in termination. This is just one example of how Erie County Executive Brenton Davis has abused his power over the past two years. His actions have repeatedly demonstrated a disregard for our community's well-being and undermined public office integrity.  Such actions include:  (1) Dismantling of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee members without just cause. (2) Using his own business, to profit from repairs done to the Erie County Prison Roof, rather than allowing local roofers to bid on project. (3) Court Ordered PFA to stay away from children + allegations of abuse from various women in the community. (4) Censoring educational reading material in Erie public libraries and discriminating against the LGBTQAI+ community. (5) Lack of transparency in attempting to turn Fairview farmland into business park without community knowledge or opinion. (6) Increased taxes, while also increasing his personal budget for items that include travel and the addition of new staff members to replace the ones he removed (currently being sued by county council over budget changes, after budget was approved). (7) Allowing a private institute to take up public space within the Blasco Library. (8) Withholding ARP funds that should have already been given to the DEI commission and homeless population. (9) Approval of inedible prison food(from Trinity Services Group) to be served to disabled, minority, and homeless kids at the county emergency youth shelter, as well as juvenile detention center. (10) Retaliation taken toward people of color, county employees, etc. Davis' unethical practices extend beyond these incidents. There are objective instances where he has misappropriated funds intended to better our community. He has also exhibited retaliatory behavior towards county employees who dare to question his decisions or stand up for what is right. The immediate removal of Brenton Davis from office is crucial if we want to restore trust in our local government and protect those who serve our community from further retaliation! We must hold him accountable for his actions and ensure that such abuses do not occur again in Erie County's public offices. Please sign this petition demanding Brenton Davis' immediate removal as Erie County Executive. We need approximately 80,300 signatures for County Council to initiate a recall of Brenton Davis from the position of County Executive.  Through collective action and unwavering determination, We the People possess the inherent power to enact meaningful and positive change!Read more

  • Demand the Immediate Resignation of the Saint Augustine's University Board of Trustees
As a proud alumna/us of Saint Augustine's University (SAU), I am deeply concerned about the future of our beloved institution. SAU has been a beacon of hope and opportunity for many, including first-generation students and those without family support structures.  The competitive education provided by SAU has led to stable careers for countless alumni.  However, the current state of affairs at SAU is alarming. There is presently alleged allegations of mismanagement of federal funding along with misallocation of said funds which these funds are the sole purpose of maintaining a safe optimal environment where our current students may flourish.  Additionally, there are several alleged accounts of board member overreach, performed by several board members excluding the student representative.  With all of this being said, there is an urgent need for change in leadership to restore the university's legacy and ensure its continued success. We believe that the current Board of Trustees must resign effective immediately in order to pave way for this much-needed change.Saint Augustine's University was founded in 1867 with a mission to provide quality education to all who seek it. Over its long history, it has produced successful graduates who have made significant contributions across various fields. However, recent events have cast a shadow over this proud legacy. The call for resignation does not come lightly but stems from deep concern about preserving the integrity and future prospects of our cherished institution. This is not just about us as individuals; it’s about protecting an institution that serves as an educational lifeline for many students who might otherwise be left behind. We urge all those involved - alumni, students, faculty members - to join us in demanding immediate action: The resignation of Saint Augustine's University Board of Trustees must happen now! • Protect Michigan’s Farmland: Stop industrial scale solar zoning on agricultural land!
Protect Michigan’s Farmland: Reverse MDARD’s Policy for Allowing Industrial Utility Scale Power Plant Development on PA 116 Lands We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the recent decision by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) to allow utility-scale solar power plants on the agricultural land enrolled in the department's Farmland and Open Space Preservation Program. Public Act 342 of 2016 creates an expectation for power companies in Michigan to produce 35% of their demonstrated need (of power) in green energy. This sounds good in concept, but there are many details to be ironed out to make it work, and it is very important for power plants of this nature to be placed in appropriate locations that won't have a detrimental impact on their surrounding environments.  The trouble is that last year, when MDARD created its policy to allow industrial solar zoning on PA 116 land, it created a situation where communities without enough commercial or industrial-zoned land available for green power production may have to offer up their farmland, and makes them vulnerable to litigation from massive power corporations, something that America's farmers and rural communities should never have to worry about.  We believe that this decision undermines the core purpose of the Farmland and Open Space Preservation Program, which was created to protect our state's valuable agricultural land for future generations. Opening up to utility-scale solar power plant development on this land threatens to displace valuable agricultural land, harm rural communities, and undermine our food production capacity. This should not be any more acceptable than putting a regular coal power plant on ag land would be, and there are many industrial areas across the state that would be suitable for utility-scale solar.  Therefore, we call for a ballot initiative that would reverse MDARD's decision and uphold its commitment to protecting Michigan's farmland. This initiative would prohibit the use of land enrolled in the Farmland and Open Space Preservation Program for commercial solar array purposes, while still allowing for the development of personal renewable energy installations. We believe that there are alternative ways to meet our green energy needs without compromising our agricultural land. We urge MDARD to prioritize the development of these alternative clean energy sources and to work with local communities to find appropriate locations for renewable energy development that do not threaten our farmland. We call on all concerned citizens to join us in this effort to protect Michigan's agricultural land. We demand that MDARD revise their policy to protect agricultural land and reverse their policy on zoning agricultural land for industrial solar arrays. We urge our elected officials to listen to the voices of their constituents and to support a ballot initiative to reverse MDARD's policy and protect our farmland for future generations.                          Read more

  • Prevent Budget Cuts from Eliminating the Spanish Passport Program in Baltimore County Public Schools
As parents and community members of Baltimore County, we have witnessed the positive impact that the Spanish Passport Program has had on our children's lives. This program has not only provided our kids with early education on Spanish language but also broadened their cultural understanding, preparing them for an increasingly globalized world. Our children deserve this invaluable opportunity. Currently, 4th graders receive 30 minutes of Spanish education once a week and 5th graders receive 50 minutes once a week. However, due to proposed budget cuts within Baltimore County Public Schools, this critical program is at risk of being eliminated. It is disheartening to see such a beneficial program being targeted for financial reasons. As of now- 31 schools will provide the program to 5th grade students for the 24-25 school year and then the program is set to be eliminated.According to a study by American Councils for International Education, early language learning improves cognitive abilities and leads to better academic performance overall (American Councils for International Education). Cutting programs like the Elementary Spanish Passport will deprive our children of these benefits. We urge you to reconsider these budget cuts and prioritize our children's education. The future success of our students should not be compromised due to budget constraints. Please stand with us in protecting the Spanish Passport Program – because every child deserves access to comprehensive language education.Sign this petition today and let your voice be heard!Read more

  • Mandatory Anti-drug Education in British Columbia
Rise Above the Challenge: Demand Mandatory Drug Prevention Education in School. The recent deliberations by the Richmond City Council regarding the establishment of a drug injection site have raised significant public concern, highlighting the authorities’ failure to implement the “four pillars” drug strategy. With an overwhelming emphasis on harm reduction, the other pillars, namely, prevention, treatment, and law enforcement, have been neglected. This oversight is contributing to the worsening of the drug issue in Canada. We firmly advocate for prevention to be the primary focus of drug policy, with education playing a pivotal role, commencing from an early age. We believe implementing comprehensive prevention education in schools is the most effective approach. To address these concerns, we are launching a petition requesting the following actions:1. The provincial government to mandate drug prevention education as a required subject in primary and secondary schools, with a curriculum designed to educate students on the dangers of drugs and promote a drug-free lifestyle.2. Until the provincial government mandates drug prevention education as a policy for all schools, local school boards should introduce drug prevention education in their schools. We recommend adopting the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program facilitated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.* We kindly seek your support for this petition. Once we have gathered sufficient signatures, we will engage with the Minister of Education, School Board Chairs and superintendents of school districts to present our findings and advocate for the implementation of drug prevention education programs. Sponsors:Drug Prevention Concern Group**Chak AuZenbia ChanThomas  Wai Chi LeungEdward Liu   * Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) is one of the most complete, effective, and evidence-based drug prevention programs for school children in Canada. It aims at preventing the use of controlled drugs, joining gangs, and engaging in violent behaviour. It has been widely implemented by many school districts in B.C. and offered to Grade 5 students in Richmond for a long time. D.A.R.E. is the foundation of the RCMP’s community-based prevention education. For more information about this program, please visit www.facebook.com/Drug3CanadFootnote 1: ** The Drug Prevention Concern Group, formerly known as Canadian Cannabis Concern Group, was formed in 2018. It has organized nationwide petitions against cannabis legalization and attended the Senate’s public hearing. As a result of the Concern Group’s efforts, Richmond passed a resolution to ban cannabis retail shops in the city. The name change in 2024 reflects the group’s expanded scope to promote comprehensive drug prevention work.Read more

  • Halt the Construction of Solar Farm on River Road
I am a resident of the Town of Chenango. The proposed solar farm that is set to be built across the street from Chenango Heights near the intersection of River Road and Clearview Place deeply concerns me. This project is not just an industrial intrusion in our residential community but also a potential threat to our property values and local environment. The construction site for this solar farm is alarmingly close to a working farm and situated along a river. There are valid concerns about potential environmental impacts, including possible contamination of our waterways and disruption to local wildlife habitats. Moreover, while the energy company and landowner stand to profit significantly from this project, we as residents are left grappling with the likely depreciation in our property values. Studies have shown that proximity to such large-scale projects can negatively impact real estate prices (source: Journal of Real Estate Research). This petition calls upon relevant authorities in the Town of Chenango, NY, USA - where we live, work and raise families - to reconsider this decision. We urge them to prioritize community interests over corporate profits by halting the construction of this solar farm on River Road. Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving the integrity of our community and protecting it from potentially harmful industrial developments.Read more

  • Stop Ken Witt & School Board / Save Gateway and Staff!!!
This is a petition to stop Ken Witt and the school board from closing our beloved Gateway. It’s unfair because Gateway and its staff are one of the most loving and caring staff any school would be lucky to have. None of the other schools were scrutinized so hard! Why this one? Ask Ken. It’s unnecessary. Why is the funding for Gateway and only Gateway getting questioned? Has the monies funded to Gateway been looked at to see where it was going? Why did all this start getting bad when Ken got put in his seat as Superintendent? Why isn’t his salary being scrutinized as much as gateways funds? Don’t they both come from the same “pot”? Did you know this almost happened last year as well? They scared all the staff and students telling them it was closing but then the deal fell through so they had to rehire almost a full staff only to turn around again and say “Nevermind”??? Really? Like Gateway is someone’s piece of financial property they can “buy and flip” For a profit? What does that have to do with our children’s education? Also where are you going to put the kids? Can Columbine handle that many more kids into already overcrowded rooms? Ever heard of fire restrictions? Not to mention the decrease in learning due to the lack of personal sessions. Finally, it’s unconstitutional in the fact that these secret meetings or meetings that are held with little or no publicity are not a fair representation of the actual citizens who live in Woodland Park. THOSE are the people this affects. THOSE are the ones who have children in the schools, therefore shouldn’t those be the ones who should vote on such a crucial matter? Who voted? Ken and the board (made up of people HE appointed)??? That’s it? I didn’t vote. Did you??? This is America where we the people say what goes. Not some guy from Monument whose other job is in…what was it again???…oh ya… private charter schools….let’s do something about this!  ~One finger can break, but many fingers form a fist. ~ Bruce LeeRead more

  • Limit the Monthly Charges Imposed by Alabama Power
I am an ordinary citizen of Alabama, struggling with the high cost of essential utilities. Every month, my power bills are in excess of $500 and this month it has skyrocketed to over $800. This is a financial burden that many Alabamians share, as we have no other option but to pay these exorbitant fees for a service that is essential for our daily lives. Alabama Power holds a monopoly on electricity provision in our state which allows them to charge us whatever they want. Many of us are forced to make difficult choices between paying our power bill or other necessary expenses such as car payments, insurance premiums, groceries or even providing for our children's needs. The situation calls for immediate intervention from regulatory bodies and lawmakers. In 2019, the average monthly residential electricity bill in Alabama was $142.38 according to U.S Energy Information Administration (EIA), significantly less than what many Alabamians are currently being charged. We urge the Public Service Commission and state legislators to impose a cap on monthly charges by utility companies like Alabama Power. This would ensure fair pricing and prevent families from having to choose between keeping their lights on or meeting other basic needs. Please sign this petition if you believe in affordable access to essential utilities for all Alabamians.Read more

  • Defend Arlington Cemetery Confederate Monument
The removal of monuments and statues has not and does not improve civil rights issues. A Presidential Document by the Executive Office of the President filed on 07/02/2020 reveals the government is perfectly aware that a trend of indiscriminate attacks on historical sites and figures is gaining steam across the country while city and state officials are unable to properly contain or counter the crimes. The government knows the tone of our country is worsening, yet the U.S. Military continues to bend a knee to the trend of whitewashing history and now has slated for the removal of an Arlington Cemetery monument. Tell our U.S. Military that enough is enough, quit the cancel culture, defend our American heritage, stop the destruction! The official Arlington Cemetery site even admits the Confederate monument is educational and valuable, “The Confederate Memorial offers an opportunity for visitors to reflect on the history and meanings of the Civil War, slavery, and the relationship between military service, citizenship and race in America… invites us to understand how politics and culture have historically shaped how Americans have buried and commemorated the dead. Memorialization at a national cemetery became an important marker of citizenship … The history of Arlington National Cemetery allows us to better understand the complex history of the United States.” And yet they’re slated to tear it down completely by the suggestion of an “independent panel.” While racism is real and white supremacist violence is real, the demolition of monuments is not an effective gesture in combating these issues. About 130,000 U.S. servicemen and women are buried in 25 cemeteries around the world. How would it be for angry protesters to smash and defile those graves? Because the descendants of Confederate soldiers feel the same way; it’s senseless to punish those of yesterday for what we’re responsible for doing today. The claim that statues reinforce “Lost Cause Mythology” is on par with (if not sub par to) the idea that video games cause violence and rap music is responsible for gang activity. Historians have been discouraging this practice for years. Constitutional historian and professor Rob Natelson wrote in 2017 that, “the destruction weakens our consciousness of history, including history’s darker side.” “[It] poses a danger, educational malpractice, of missing opportunities to educate people, and of going too far," said Alan Dershowitz, Harvard Law Professor Emeritus, in a 2017 interview. Political risk analyst Kevin Amirehsani published, “These situations often serve to harden beliefs on both sides and raise tension…. without limits, the outcome may prove to be even more unhealthy for community members and governments both.” “The semi-hysterical push to remove them is,” Cheryl Benard wrote for the National Interest, “a mistake, a dangerous precedent, and an exercise in ignorance. Mobs pull statues down. ISIS destroys monuments. Fanatics rewrite history to edit out the bits they don’t like. Our country should not be walking down that road…. The people behind the destruction of a statue or an edifice or a monument of course believe themselves to be justified,” but that it, among other dangers, creates martyrs. The plaintiff parties claim that it isn’t about erasing history, yet that’s exactly what’s at stake. Monuments are visual cues which prompt curiosity to learn and research history of which future generations will be deprived. The origin of Arlington Cemetery is itself Civil War, Confederate history, so this is kind of ironic to strip it of the Confederate monument. For Arlington Cemetery to allow the Confederate burial section was a gesture of reunification between the North and South post-War, therefore tearing it down is a step backwards. Our U.S. military had consistently defended bases and monuments commemorating Confederate figures as recently as 2015, when society really turned into a pressure cooker. The only reason this monument is being targeted is for its "inclusivity." The Jewish-American veteran who designed this included two black American figures wearing period attire fulfilling socially appropriate roles of the time. Does this reflect who we are today? Absolutely not and that's precisely what makes for history. Monuments aren't supposed to be modern, they capture the bygone days from which we need to study and learn. Historical sites should not be redecorated as nonchalantly as one's living room. Statues don’t hurt people, ignorance does. The first wave of Confederate monuments correlates with the passing away of veterans, when their children wished to commemorate their lives, whereas the second wave of Confederate monuments could arguably correlate with opposition to the Civil Right Movement. More information and less bias is necessary for proper evaluation and responsible action. 2020 polls show 59% view the Confederate flag as a matter of Southern pride and 44% of Americans feel the statues should remain [which is surprising considering A.) I don’t remember ever being polled on either issue, so the number might actually be higher than reported, and B.) How do you know you’re on the right side of history when 150 yrs ago half of the country was in favor of both slavery and secession, and we see how that turned out?] Even black Americans have spoken out against the censoring of, as well as their support for, Confederate history. Author and journalist Sophia A. Nelson, political scientist Byron Thomas, H.K. Edgerton of NC, Freya Powell of Atlanta GA, Anthony Hervey of MS (God rest his soul,) Marcus Daniels, Courtney Daniels (of NY now VA,) and author and MS native Al Arnold. A Google search won’t produce results, but a DuckDuckGo search on black Confederate supporters and reenactors may surprise you. Even people who hate the Confederacy think the figures ought to remain as reminders of how far we’ve come, like professor of anthropology Lawrence Kuznar. The removal of monuments is, well, illegal by the Antiquities Act of 1906. And Public Law 105 - 101 - Veterans' Cemetery Protection Act of 1997, An act to amend chapter 91 of title 18, United States Code, provides criminal penalties for theft and willful vandalism at national cemeteries. I proffer that a planned demolition is premeditated and corroborated vandalism. Funds allotted to the removal of statues becomes funds unavailable for other, more pressing projects and maintenance, such as road conditions (just ask Richmond VA how they’re doing these days.) For over a decade Arlington has been working on the Southern Expansion project involving the Air Force Memorial and roadways; the latest budget request has tripled to $228M, which begs the question, where could this money be better applied? After the removal of statues tourism is diminished, directly affecting the prosperity and industry of an institution and town. By removing this statue, Arlington Park will be potentially pissing off a lot of patriots and paying visitors. Removing statues and monuments is setting a bad example across the country, encouraging wanton destruction. Make it stop!Read more

  • Overturn Tajah McClain's Wrongful Conviction
I am reaching out to you today as a victim of a grave miscarriage of justice. I stand convicted for a crime I did not commit and sentenced to serve 65 years in prison, my life irrevocably altered by the very system that was meant to protect me. My case was marred by police and prosecutorial misconduct, leading to an unjust outcome. It is estimated that between 2% and 10% of all convictions in the United States are wrongful (source: National Registry of Exonerations). This means thousands of innocent people like myself are languishing behind bars while the real perpetrators walk free. This petition is not just about me; it's about every individual who has been wrongfully accused and convicted. It's about reforming our justice system so that it truly serves its purpose - protecting innocent citizens rather than condemning them.By signing this petition, you're standing up against injustice, advocating for those whose voices have been silenced by wrongful conviction. Let us band together to ensure fairness prevails in our legal system. Please sign this petition to help overturn my wrongful conviction and bring attention to this critical issue affecting many others across our nation. • JSU - IHL THEE 1877 Project
Dear Jackson State Alumni and Supporters, As we begin the new year, we ask for your support, engagement, and voice in ensuring the long-term strength and viability of “our dear old college home,” Jackson State University.  One of the acute threats to Jackson State University is the consistent failure to identify, select, and retain prepared, competent leadership in the president's office. Since the departure of Dr. John A. Peoples in 1984, the university has had seven (7) presidents, not including the six (6) interim presidents who have served over this period.  Mississippi's Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) appoints presidents to the state's public institutions, including Jackson State. Given the high turnover and abrupt, often murky, departure of some leaders, it is clear that the existing appointment process serves neither Jackson State nor the state of Mississippi well.   We are calling for a change in this process. We ask you to review the following letter, email it, and send it physically to the IHL commissioner, Dr. Alfred Rankins, Jr. Please copy the IHL Board of Trustees on the letter. Feel free to include any elected official in the state in the correspondence.  We need thousands of alumni and supporters to engage in this process. Please distribute this broadly to alums and stakeholders. We will also call on alumni and supporters to physically attend future IHL meetings to comment, hear, and review progress regarding this issue.  The letter is a template that you can enhance to suit your sentiments. However, please ensure you leave the four "asks" in place. You can add others, but keep the four. "No gree" is a Nigerian phrase of resistance and resilience that signals "unwilling to settle for less than I deserve ."It is a rallying cry for workers, citizens, and others organizing to stand for their rights. This is a no-gree moment for those who want to see our institution solid and viable now and for future generations.  Thanks in advance for your engagement and support. With both despair and hope, you address the critical matter of the JSU President Appointment Process. The despair I speak of is born from the decades-long struggle to find a leader for "THEE I LOVE" who can lead effectively and serve with longevity. Since the departure of Dr. John A. Peoples in 1984, JSU has witnessed seven different presidents, not including those who served on an interim basis, of which there have been six. By any measure, this level of leadership turnover is unacceptable, especially when considering that many of these leaders departed under less-than-honorable circumstances. You will concur that we can and must do better for JSU and its community. One recurring theme in these transitions is the need for more transparency in the appointment process. Information surrounding the process has been kept under wraps, leaving alums and supporters in the dark. It is common knowledge that the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) have enlisted the assistance of consultants in the search for suitable candidates. Either this approach has failed to uncover glaring shortcomings in potential appointees, or these shortcomings have been overlooked. In the spirit of fairness and optimism, let us assume that the third-party consultants are not solely to blame. In that case, I propose that we chart a new course that actively involves others in the selection process, thereby replacing the current model with one that promotes transparency and inclusivity. This is where the hope comes into play. Looking ahead, IHL should discard the conventional approach and engage alumni and supporters to play a substantial role in the appointment process. This involvement could encompass various aspects, such as selecting third-party consultants to recommend and screening candidates and ultimately appointing our next JSU president. Furthermore, it is crucial to establish a well-resourced and transparent standing succession planning committee and process. A robust succession plan would not only enhance the university's capabilities but also foster continuity and offer insights into the pipeline of potential key talents, especially for the position of president.  In the coming weeks,– I respectfully request the following actions from the IHL. Publicly review the process and final selection criteria for the most recent JSU presidential appointment. Engage in a dialogue to address our concerns and consider our suggestions for future JSU presidential appointments.Implement a formal and transparent succession planning framework.Integrate the JSU alum constituency into the succession planning and appointment process to ensure alums actively participate in each phase of future leadership searches and selections.  We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to discuss these concerns with the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning in an upcoming meeting. Together, we can work towards a brighter future for Jackson State University and build a model that can be adopted by other Mississippi universities facing similar challenges with the presidential appointment process. Thank you for your time and consideration. Your dedication to the betterment of JSU is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, [Your Name] [Your Class or Affiliation with JSU]Read more

  • Urgent Community Concerns: Increased Traffic and Proposed School Construction on Wren Aven
As stakeholders deeply invested in the well-being of our community, we want to bring to your attention a pressing concern regarding increased traffic issues on Wren Avenue. This project not only threatens our homes but also endangers people safety and the precious green space that makes our community in Manchester, MO so unique. Our Manchester residences are currently grappling with additional traffic challenges that compound the existing problems in our neighborhood. Furthermore we acknowledge and appreciate the importance of education. However, we believe there are alternative solutions that can meet educational needs without sacrificing our green space. Green spaces are vital for both mental and physical health. According to studies from the University of Exeter Medical School, people living closer to nature have reduced levels of stress and increased physical activity (source: University of Exeter Medical School research). We urge you to carefully consider the impact of this proposed school construction on the already strained traffic conditions. As residents, we are deeply invested in maintaining the safety, tranquility, and overall livability of our community. Constructing a third school on Wren Avenue without addressing the existing traffic issues could intensify the challenges we currently face. The addition of another school on Wren Avenue would increase traffic congestion significantly. Already with two schools in close proximity, residents already experience daily traffic issues during drop-off and pick-up times. We urge you to consider other locations for this new school or explore options such as expanding existing facilities rather than encroaching upon our cherished green space. Please join us in protecting our neighborhood's character and quality of life by signing this petition against Parkway School District constructing a third school on Wren Avenue.Read more

  • NO SOLAR ON AGRICULTURE LAND IN SHELBY COUNTY
RWE/Graceland Solar plans to put a 1,482 acre Industrial Solar Plant in the Millington area.  This area encompasses south of Pleasant Ridge Rd to the Loosahatchie River, as far west as Ral-Mill Rd and east to Old Covington Pike.  2.3 square miles of existing farmland would be replaced with over 400,000 solar panels.  The environment, wildlife and resident property values would be significantly harmed.   INDUSTRIAL SOLAR PLANTS DO NOT BELONG ON CONSERVATION AGRICULTURE LAND!!  Solar plants belong on industrial zoned land and brownfields.   Prime farmland should not be taken out of production for this purpose. The beauty of North Shelby County would be irreversibly damaged. Property values would greatly diminish. There are over 1,200 homes within a one mile radius of this solar plant.  Declines are due to visual impact, continuous generator-like noise, contamination of water, poor drainage management and habitat degradation. Agribusiness would suffer from lost patronage from these farmers. Drinking water and underground streams would be affected by the erosion and toxic runoff. Wildlife habitat would be affected by the fencing barriers, heat, and noise from these facilities. There would be very little positive impact to our county:               Power is allocated to Meta/FB in Gallatin, TN NOT Shelby County       It will NOT reduce our electricity bills.                                                    It will not provide any new jobs to Shelby County We are demanding the Shelby County Government protect its citizens and deny industrial solar plants on conservation agriculture land.   Residents or homeowners in SHELBY COUNTY, TN please sign!   (You don't have to donate to sign petition. All donations go to change.org not to NoSolarMillington)Read more

  • Hold Ryan Walters responsible for his role in Nex Benedict's death
Nex Benedict was laid to rest quietly this week after a brutal attack in Owasso High School. Everyone should be aware of the death of this 16 year old kid, who was a great student with a bright future. According to news reports, they were beaten in their school bathroom by three other high schoolers, where they slammed their head into the floor repeatedly.  School officials failed to call an ambulance for this student, despite the fact that they could not walk on their own. They were taken to the hospital by their guardian and released, only to be rushed back the next day. Tragically,  they died from their injuries.  Those that harmed this child, including the students who attacked them, school officials who refused to offer this child aid, and Ryan Walters, whose dangerous rhetoric led to their death, should be held accountable.  Ryan Walters has spent his time as Oklahoma School Superintendent building a career for himself off the backs of teachers and students, spreading the idea that Oklahoma schools are filled with depraved individuals that groom kids into some mangled woke mold. He has spoken against the LGBTQIA+ community at every opportunity. He has invited far right mouthpieces to take part in the decision making for our schools, leading to religious indoctrination and threats of bombs and other acts of violence directed at Oklahoma schools.  Now, one of our kids has died due to the extreme, politically motivated speech and propganda spread in speeches, videos produced with Oklahoma taxpayer money, and videos filmed in his car.  This should have never happened. Nex deserved to live their life. Oklahomans who believe in freedom should allow everyone else to have the same degree of freedom, rather than prescribing the way that others live.  Ryan Walters needs to be held accountable for his actions that have led to violence against our students and the death of one of our children.  Edit: In the wake of this tragedy, Ryan Walters has chosen to ignore it in favor of promoting his obsession with so-called pornography. Sign and support Ryan Walters being removed from his position as School Superintendent of Oklahoma. Read more

Support South Africa’s case against Israel at the ICJ
We the undersigned applaud and fully support South Africa’s referral of Israel to the ICJ (International Court of Justice) for its genocidal crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza. We hope that this action will lead to some form of international action that will put an end to the suffering of the people of Gaza, and also lead to achieving justice after two months of incessant war crimes by Israel which have led to 21,000 deaths so far.   According to Al Jazeera.com ‘In an application to the court on Friday 29th December 2023, South Africa described Israel’s actions in Gaza as “genocidal in character because they are intended to bring about the destruction of a substantial part of the Palestinian national, racial and ethnical group”. The acts in question include “killing Palestinians in Gaza, causing them serious bodily and mental harm, and inflicting on them conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction,” the application said.’ More details can be found on https://www.icj-cij.org/case/192 Application Instituting procedures (English only). Save Aviators Restaurant at Sac Executive Airport!
February 26, 2024 UPDATE PART II: VICTORY!!!!! The Save Aviators Committee thanks the community for its tireless and inspiring efforts to support Aviators, the County of Sacramento, and the Department of Airport officials in its decision to discontinue the pursuit of RFPs and to work with the current operator to renew the lease and preserve this community treasure. The outcome validates everyone's strong belief that Sacramento is a great place to live and work with elected leaders dedicated to serving their community.February 26, 2024 UPDATE:Thank you to those of you who have signed postcards of support for our "Save Aviators" campaign. If you have not signed a postcard, please click this link to authorize us to complete a postcard on your behalf. The postcard verbiage is included in the link. Since we started the postcard campaign, over 400 postcards have been sent to Supervisor Kennedy. Also, we are requesting an in-person meeting with Supervisor Kennedy to discuss various issues related to Aviators and its future. Please consider adding your name to the letter by completing this authorization form: https://forms.gle/amC3KWEVpm7e4TDNA The letter is enclosed in the link. Thank you for support Cheung-Sang Chik and his restaurant, Aviators!    January, 2024 UPDATE*** At the close of 2023 a small group of regional organizers have joined forces to keep the momentum going to save Aviators. This link will take you to the form to receive updates on the Sacramento community's effort to save Aviators Restaurant from being replaced by the Sacramento County Department of Airports.  The two most helpful things you can do right now is sign the petition and sign-up for more updates.  We want to thank everyone who has signed and shared the petition so far and taken the now closed county survey! We've surpassed 4,000 signatories thanks to all of you!   ******Aviators restaurant is a jewel in the community. A perfectly preserved gem located within in the Sacramento Executive Airport featuring lovingly cared for interiors that date to the 70s with an array of model airplanes hanging from the ceiling, wood shingled curved booths with diamond tuck upholstery, all with a view of planes landing and taking off on the Sac Executive landing strip. The food is affordable and well prepared and the service is excellent. This is by far one of the best and most unique places to get breakfast in Sacramento.  Chick who has held the lease on this location for almost 25 years was recently informed that his lease would not be renewed in the interest of attracting an "upscale" vendor to take his place. Any restauranteur will tell you that surviving the last 3.5yrs in the food service industry has been brutal. Learning your lease is ending so that the landlord can pursue an unknown operator after you've persevered through a global pandemic and continued to serve comfort food to the Sacramento community is unacceptable. Aviators is consistently packed and is a much loved community institution. We ask that the Airport Authority renew Chick's lease so that the Sacramento region can continue to enjoy this very special restaurant. In the meantime we ask that you take the airport's survey to let them know what you think of these plans. You can also write to your county supervisor and council person to let them know how you feel about these changes and that you want Chick and his family to stay.    Read more
