Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse The contextual intricacy and the fact that the last episodes change the setting completely, also switching the slight comedy for drama make “Witch of Mercury” a mecha anime that is definitely worth watching, for reasons beyond its usual technical prowess. Rated: 7 •  Jul 8, 2023 Full Review Carrie McClain Black Nerd Problems Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury is a fresh entry in the long running history of Mobile Suit Gundam and one that continues to be a standout. Mar 30, 2023 Full Review David Hogan hoganreviews.co.uk A strange mix of school life, business politics and mobile suit combat but with a lead character that’s genuinely charming and easy to route for (with the possible exception of the final scene of the series!) made for a fun ride. Miriam G Gundam: Witch From Mercury is a brand new entry in Gundam multiverse, by the creator of the incredible Code Geass. And it is another flop. Witch From Mercury takes place in a new timeline, where Colonists have the upper hand and Earth has lost. But the main antagonists are not generals or emperors, but... Companies. One company discovers a Gundarm, a secret weapon and tries to use it against the other Companies. But let us forget all of this and switch the entire show to a space high school for Mobile Suit pilots, who fight for a tournament and marriage rights! The first season was so boring to watch, between the second and the penultimate episode, that you can even skip 10 episodes and lose nothing. It has a promising cliffhanger, out of nowhere and...then Season 2 happens, which tries to make up for the crappy first season. And fails miserably. Even the stellar animation and the production can not ultimately make up for the messy story and the finale is fully rushed. Personally, after I've watched every Gundam (except AGE), Witch is by far one of the bottom 5 Gundam anime series. It is forgettable, boring and another fail attempt by Ichiro Okouchi in mecha genre, after the incredibly bad Code Geass alternate sequels. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review Sangheon H It's a step backwards from the shoddy, mass-produced anime of the 90s. It would have been nice if the fights were up to par for 2023, but they're nowhere near as good as the fight scenes from the heyday of 20th century Japanese animation. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/01/23 Full Review RX-78-2 What the heck happened here? As a diehard U.C. fan I have generally enjoy most all of non U.C. mecha such as Turn A, Gundam X, IBO, and OO just to name a few. I even got some enjoyment out of build fighters even though the whole high school premise was really not for me, I felt it made up for it with the cool fights and action scenes. I can pick apart my most favorite gundam shows but still have plenty of thought provoking sessions about what I just watched and over look huge flaws of some series, which finally brings to The Witch from Mercury. This show from the getgo put a bad taste in my mouth but endured because well, its gundam. After a few cringy seasons for gundam build fighters I though my tolerance was pretty high but boy was I wrong. This show does NOT feel like a gundam show. Even though there are a lot of cool mobile suit designs and Gundam ariel is a fairly fresh and interesting design i must say i cannot stand the characters in this show. Most all of the characters either have a personality of a wet blanket or are just a tragic japanese high school trope with the sassy pink poofy haired big mouth girl to your doofy comic relief dude or your cringy main character that is brain dead and void of a likeable personality. This high school drama setting for gundam is not a good look for a supposed mecha series and I really hope Bandai steers away from this formula. I don't know who this was made for but it isn't made for long time gundam fans. I crave the days of a more serious toned series closer to 8th ms team or in the modern day a series more like hathaways flash or thunderbolt. I know this reviews is long but its only because I care about this franchise and I really wanted this to be good and I tried hard to enjoy it and savor the things I liked about it but the cons just far outweighed pros. I would also like to add that I have never left a review for a show in my life and somehow this show compelled me to do one. I guess we will just have to wait for the next hathaway movie. Summary: if you like high school drama more than mecha this is the show for you. If you are more into a tonely serious gundam that debates the morality of war and humanity itself don't waste your time and just rewatch iron blooded orphans or kick back to stardust memory. Thank you for reading this far. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/30/23 Full Review Plasmas Great show! Loved the ending to Season 1 it was very unexpected. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/23 Full Review Gojo I Gundam but injected with high school drama Some episodes are good and you feel like you are watching a traditional high stake gundam show, but those are few and far in between. If you are into high school drama mixed with mecha then this is your show, if you more of a traditional gundam fan who likes war stories then i don't think will be the show to watch, this leans toward economics more then war. Not worth your time if you are more than 15 years old, in reality o mentally. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/25/23 Full Review Ichigo K 1 Episode of Gundam, 11 episodes of teen drama The setting? Wack. The supporting cast? Wack. The plot pacing? Wack. The Gundam fights? Pretty decent, if you just want to watch the mechs blow up and don't care much about the circumstances you may enjoy this.
