Klonoa Chronicles #65

Klonoa Chronicles is a series of tweets by Klonoa’s original creator, Hideo Yoshizawa, that give insights into the development of the games he had a hand in making. Below is a translation along with the original Japanese text.

クロノアクロニクル　第６５回！ しかしサウンド担当者によると「それは音楽理論的に繋がらないのでできない」と言うのです。 

Klonoa Chronicles #65! According to the sound manager, “We can’t do that because it doesn’t work with music theory.”

それでも頭の中では完璧にタイミングができていたので粘りに粘りました。 「♪ラ～～～、ラァ～～～～～～………、１、２、３、ハイ！　♪ララララ～ラ～ってしてほしいんですよ」と。 

Still, I had perfect timing in my head, so I persisted. “♪ La~ Laaaa~…, 1, 2, 3, yes!  ♪ La la la la~ La~ Do it just like that.”

でもそれが音大出身でクラシックを勉強してきた彼女には違和感でしかなかったんでしょうね。必死に説明してくれるんですけど、わたしは頭の中で気持ちいいテンポが固まっていたので粘っちゃったんです。 

But I guess it was just a strange feeling for her, who had studied classical music at music college. She desperately tried to explain, but I persisted because I had a good tempo in my head.

後で彼女の上司に聞いた所、彼女は一所懸命私の意図を汲んで、何とかしようと努力してくれたようですが、相当悩んでしまい、どうしてもできない！　と泣き出して会社を飛び出して行って、騒ぎになったのだそうです。 

Her boss later told me that she tried her best to understand my intentions and tried to do something about it, but she was so distressed that she just couldn’t do it and ran out of the office in tears, causing a commotion.

こだわりが担当者を泣かしてしまった…。 でも、最終的にはイメージ通りのものができあがって、凄い満足でした。 ごめんね、そしてありがとう。 

All this had made her cry… But in the end, everything had worked out and I was very satisfied. I was very sorry and said thank you.

ついに完成したエンディングムービーを、ある日スタッフ全員で観る会を開きました。 最後の本が閉じるシーンが終わると、スタッフはすっかり感動していて、何か全てが完了したような錯覚に陥りました。 

One day, we held a party for all the staff to watch the ending movie that was finally completed. After the final scene where the book closes, the staff was completely moved and felt as if everything had been completed.

が、開発は終わってなんかいませんから！ それどころか実はクロノア最大のピンチはこれからだったのです。 つづく
