The New York Times has published a glowing obituary after the passing of trans activist Cecilia Gentili - a man who campaigned for the full decriminalization of sex trafficking in NY state. Gentili spread misinformation about the Nordic Model nordicmodelnow.org, a policy proven to reduce sex trafficking by cutting demand. The legislation criminalizes pimps and punters while decriminalizing victims of the sex industry, and has so far been implemented in Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Northern Ireland, Canada, France, Israel, and Ireland. Prostitution is inherently violent. The sex industry preys on women and girls, most of whom have been victims of sexual abuse prior to being commercially exploited. Research has shown that full decriminalization increases coercive and violent sex trafficking, often of marginalized and / or migrant women, to areas where pimps can operate legally. Gentili's campaigning for legitimizing an industry of paid rape is shameful, , not something to be celebrated. He is just another man who views women as sex objects for male use. Gentili was a fetishist who profited from the exploitation and objectification of women and girls.

Once an undocumented sex worker and addict, Cecilia Gentili was a powerful advocate for transgender people and other marginalized groups, and an irresistible story teller. She has died at 52. nyti.ms/3wckyOC
