Coding lessons 101, it shouldn't be that fucking hard to understand what a pointer is but that's where we currently stand8

"Let‘s make a service where the users can enter all of their secrets and sensitive data so that we can warn them if that data has been leaked elsewhere"
What could possibly go wrong?1 -
Don't attack flies using tanks.
In 2020, a bug was found in gnome-terminal where selecting many megabytes of text inside the terminal would cause the terminal emulator to crash.
As a remedy, the brain of gnome-terminal developer Christian Persch spawned a "brilliant idea": Limiting the "Select all" feature to selecting only the portion of text that is visible on screen.
In other words, Persch made the "Select all" option useless. After pressing "Select all", it appeared as if everything was selected, but once you scrolled up, nothing beyond what was visible was selected.
By solving a minor problem that rarely ever occurs, Christian Persch created a major problem that often occurs.

How do you type with pairs of characters like () [] <> "" etc.?
Do you type them both, then move the cursor back and type the stuff inside or do you type the first of the pair, then type the stuff inside and then close it with the second of the pair?
I just realized I do both techniques, apparently randomly, which weirds me out.
Also my IDE often places the second character of the pair automatically.8 -

A local employer is getting desperate in my area I think. My wife owns a business and talks to people from all sorts of backgrounds. Today a hiring manager that employs software engineers talked to my wife. My wife mentioned that I write software. They now want to talk to me. I have seen their adverts and thought about applying. Pretty sure they will pay a lot more than my current employer.
I think the universe might be telling me something.1 -
Visual Studio's intellisence recommending me NOT to use
ISomeService = new Service() and just Service coz the latter is faster (these are non-DI services)
is giving me a wierd anxiety. I'd prefer to stick to exposing Interfaces just as a convention but the constant💡is killing me :v
//I know the actual performance difference is neglible, but retarded mind still focuses on it even if I dont want it to1 -

Judging by the amount of bitcoin recovery ad spam here on devrant, there must be a huge amount of people somehow losing their bitcoins on a daily basis.
Thank god those altruistic scammers… *ahem* I mean hackers of course… are there to help.2 -
Windows is getting dumber by the minute.
It now forgot how time works completely.
I setup nightmode to start at 21:30 and end at 11:15, and guess what, it just activated night mode at 11:15 (!)
I hate windows for all it's downgrading my life to pointlessness...3 -
being physically disabled is such a nightmare. i have experienced a whole different personality of being dependent on others , being incapable of basic tasks and feeling incomplete all the times. it's very humbling, and i have found a whole new respect for human body and social conduct.
just want to get whole again. don't know how long its going to take a humerus arm fracture to join back on is own, now that i got a plate screwed to the broken parts to keep them together.
the doctors will probably ask me to remove the external brace after a few months followed by exercises for next more months the complete bends/stretch will probably take 6-9 months and bone will join enough in 1-2 year after which i could get the plate removed (this is the happy case, not considering the high risk of my bones getting permanently twisted or plate getting envolped by bone mass )
everything simply sucks till then. imagine getting pushed back in your life by 2+ yrs in your prime age of 25.
farewell to my dreams of adventure sports, senior goals and gappy marriage .
folks, don't do stupid stuff that can get your body into trouble, you WILL regret. -
