Forum: forums Subject: Many YouTube videos which used to work on the Wayback Machine don't work anymore

Many YouTube videos were archived as Flash videos on the Wayback Machine. However, I cannot view many of those videos anymore. When I use Chrome or Microsoft Edge, I just get the "Sorry, the Wayback Machine does not have this video archived (or not indexed yet)." message. This was common even when I could get this to work, but it now pops up for videos that I'm sure worked before. In Internet Explorer, Flash comes up but the video doesn't load.

Is this a deliberate policy on the part of the Internet Archive? Is there any way I can access these archived videos? Some of them are not on YouTube anymore, but were preserved through the Wayback Machine.

You Can Watch it, just download Cent browser v4.2.9.152, After that go to this page https://www.reddit.com/r/neopets/comments/w9sspe/guide_adobe_flash_in_2022_for_cent_browser/ (copy and paste it), do the following steps and that's it! If it still doesn't work you have to wait until Ruffle (Flash emulator) supports maybe 80% or 75% ActionScript 3 API

So As Of Typing This Right Now, I've also been experiencing some problems with youtube and here's the thing, before 2008 youtube videos were been able to be watched but with other video players like JW Player And classic mp3 file, but in march of 2008 when you go there and click on an video you will see that the video is runned by Adobe Flash Player, well some of this videos rarely worked in march and april of 2008 , but in may of 2008 you have been abled to watch videos on youtube with adobe flash player (I know as of now Adobe Flash Player is not supported but i have another browser called Cent Browser which is an alternative to Chrome where you can watch animation and play games runned by Adobe Flash Player), but after may 30th 2008 youtube changed to a video player and that's where the problem begins. When I click on this video after may 30th 2008 on Cent Browser it just says "Were sorry, this video is no longer available, This also applies with 2009 2010 2011 2012 and 2013 youtube. I know you can watch youtube videos with JW Player but I already have a browser that still support Adobe Flash Player. So is there any help for that? (Quick Note: Cent Browser that I am using is an old version v4.3.9.248, after this version the Browser no longer support Adobe Flash Player.) Here's the example

True for me as well. The videos came back in late 2019, but now they don't work anymore again.

Most curiously, one URL, despite showing up as crawled, gives a message of "The Wayback Machine has not archived that URL." when any particular crawl is clicked on. http://web.archive.org/web/2017*/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGmYLZkTOEc

Might be a little late but I found a solution that seems to work for most cases where the video previously worked. Using the format https://web.archive.org/web/2oe_/http://wayback-fakeurl.archive.org/yt/ succeeded by the video ID will usually give you the original crawled file. For example, https://web.archive.org/web/2oe_/http://wayback-fakeurl.archive.org/yt/iCkYw3cRwLo one of the recent YouTube videos referenced on this thread, or one of the videos linked in the original post: https://web.archive.org/web/2oe_/http://wayback-fakeurl.archive.org/yt/csL2D068RAY

You have to copy and paste the video ID (the part of a Youtube video url with 11 random characters) and replace the video ID already present.

If successful, you should either be redirected to a video player loading up and playing the video you wanted to view (you can right-click and click "Save As" to download it) or have a video file ready for download labeled "get_video".

This actually worked somehow! So for the guy above this, so you copy and paste that link, you see where it says yt with the dash? Remove the letters and numbers after that until you are at the dash. Grab the url and get only the numbers and letters after the original youtube URL. Then paste that in and you will get the Get_video. Then open that with a video player and it should work.

If the video doesn't appear when you use the format https://web.archive.org/web/2oe_/http://wayback-fakeurl.archive.org/yt/, does that mean there is absolutely no way to recover the video? Has it simply not been archived?

I have URLs of old YouTube videos where the page containing the video has been saved just fine, but not the video itself. There are also a lot of redirects.

Here's some examples:
- This has the page AND the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG6LCoIF0kE
- This has the page but NOT the video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slXb7k2SRmw
- This only gives redirects:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvrNg7BrLNs

Is there even the slightest possibility of recovering these other videos? It would mean the world to me. Thanks!

I've also been having similar issues. It seems that the embedded YouTuber player changed to a newer one and that stops the videos from playing (at least I think this is the issue since the videos stopped working when the video player changed). I would be very grateful if you could get this fixed.

Similar situation here regarding the error message, I archived this video multiple times in the past (latest archive today: https://web.archive.org/web/20220328030604/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srpoytfZcDY) but Wayback Machine is still unable to archive the video. Surprisingly some videos were able to be archived with their respective webpage in the first archive (e.g. https://web.archive.org/web/20210613222500/https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DjJ34Xcl7O4c%26feature%3Dyoutu.be).

And I was overjoyed to find it with the Wayback Machine. But now it gives that damn error message. Does anybody know how to get past it and why it only recently stopped working? Thanks!

The top video plays. You have to be really careful how you manipulate urls, captures, etc... So, get rid of the #expand on your post. You don't need it in this example. Also, if the video is flash:
- use ruffle, or https://awayfl.org/, or even y8.com browser (go to the toggle elements and open the developer console window and type (location.href="url you want" and this will also play the flash... albeit more work (rather just use awayfl or ruffle).

The calendar captures different times, webpages, etc... each is its own individual one. I normally start with the beginning capture and move down the line. I'll manipulate the videos, etc... with flash (if flash video) to see if it works. Sometimes flash videos won't work on the first couple goes... so it takes some patience. The "Smash History: Ness and Lucas (Super Smash Bros 3DS and Wii U Gameplay Analysis)" does play despite showing 0:00-0:00. I just got rid of expand and went to earliest capture. And pressed play (pause, and un-pause and the video played).

But this is just one example. Some videos might truly have played in the past and no longer play. RE-DACTED: someone already has video in collections.https://archive.org/details/smash-history-ness-and-lucas I'll download and store the smash bros in collection though just in case the video does stop working entirely in the future because that would suck.

I had that problem when trying to play some deleted .exe games and screen savers. I have a 20th century fox screensaver from the 1996-2000 that doesn't work on my pc because of the software I think. But as technology advances... it scares me to think that much of our history might be lost if we just retire software and machinery rather than preserve.

I'm desperate. Could one of the archive.org admins see if these videos are archived in any capacity? I think they might be, because I remember in 2018 I remember one of the videos from the channel of the video I'm linking was archived/indexed, and I downloaded it. But now it isn't archived. These videos might have suffered the same fate but I'm not sure.

Please help. I'm trying to retrieve an important video of a rap group. They told me the story why it the account was deleted (some feud and hackers involved) and how there are no backups (seriously).
