Nehru to Modi, the Ayodhya movement in 8 defining phases

The most complex dispute of faith in India was eventually settled in 2019, by a Supreme Court verdict

Jawaharlal Nehru years
1949, the miracle | On the intervening night of December 22 & 23, 1949, the idol of Ram Lalla, worshipped till this day, appeared inside the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya after a week-long Ramayan recital organised by Goraksha Peeth. In an FIR filed on December 23 at Ayodhya police station, Abhiram Das, mahant of the nearby Hanumangarhi temple, and two more men were named. Many years later, the ‘miracle’ was decoded — as a planned move in which Abhiram carried the idol into the building. PM Nehru called up UP CM GB Pant to get the idol removed. But then Faizabad DM KKK Nayar resisted, warning of widespread unrest. Hashim Ansari, a tailor in Ayodhya, filed the first legal plea from the Muslim side. On Dec 29, Faizabad municipal board chairman Priya Dutt Ram was appointed receiver of the disputed site.
