As a lawmaker, I would ban smartphones thinner than ten millimetres (10 mm) so manufacturers are forced into building physically stronger smartphones with bigger and faster-charging batteries without having a competitive disadvantage.

Today, i have never been embarrassed like this in my life.
I started onboarding sessions with this guy. We were on teams call. It was a knowledge transfer session. Hes explaining how the system works. Then tells me which programs to install.
I was searching through allowed programs to install. Installed notepad++ (who tf uses that in 2024?) Installed snaggit. Then had to install putty. Instead of writing putty i unconsciously without thinking wrote pussy

How would you approach optimizing a web application for performance, considering factors like page load speed, responsiveness, and overall user experience?10

Google simply can't knock off harrassing their users with security theatre.
A friend of mine has a small personal YouTube channel. He has recently been bombarded with several phone verification requests a week: "Verify it's you. To continue your session, complete a brief verification. This extra step helps us keep your account safe by making sure it’s really you. "
While frequent verifications may be understandable on YouTube channels with millions of subscribers, channels with only a few dozen subscribers are not attractive hacking targets. A verification would be justified before a potentially harmful action such as deleting videos or deleting a channel. But not for normal everyday use.
What's next? Will they ask users to "verify it's them" every ten minutes, "just for extra security"? Just to verify that it is "really, really, really, really, really" them?
It's not security. It's security theatre.
Sorry, Google, but users are not in the mood of doing a phone verification every other day.
Has this been Google's perverted wet dream all along?1 -
Have you ever said to yourself
“This function is very inefficient but who gives a fuck, it’s not like this list will grow to a million”2 -
I am so pissed at all the shit I have to do to publish a simple app on the playstore. Every 2 phrases is a threat to ban my account, and target audience, and privacy policy, all of this for an app that is absolutely not serious. And I am not even started with the Apple Store because I am too broke this month to throw $100.4

After the American mass layoffs, Silicon Valley software is getting worse in a worse way than it used to, maybe also due to AI generated code and content, especially Google product quality keeps dropping continuously. I am afraid I will have to switch to Apple eventually1

How the fuck am I supposed to fucking keep working if these fucking clowns add mandatory peer code review and passing build gating on main repositories (which I completely agree with to be fair) but they don't fucking review pull requests at all? For fuck's sake, am I the only one that reviews them seriously and promptly in this shit ass fuck company? I follow all the recommended guidelines so don't bullshit me with "iT iS nOt FuN tO rEvIeW pUlL rEqUeStS", do your job or just remove yourself from the fucking gating process, you worthless admin ass crust.
And don't get me started on fucking builds that fail randomly because some worthless shit bucket added unstable networking tests as unittests somehow, making your pull request get auto-disapproved by peers upon failure.
I got so many pending pull requests and management won't do fuck all about it because they won't force people to do their job by fear of pushing them around and get HR complaints that I am tempted to simply give up and just start playing videogames.3 -
Have you tried anything (legal) to consume/smell that helps you get in the zone?
I want to try smelling salt lol. Feels like it could give me a rush to crush whatever I'm working on9 -
God DAMN IT!!!!
I swear, every single time I get close to a Spring project I'm elbows deep in shit.
Like this case... I have to explicitly specify @DependsOn for my @Component, so Spring could autowire constructor parameters. If I don't, sometimes the app starts fine (if I start it through IDE) and sometimes it fails, saying bean could not be created (apparently, there's some functionality gap causing PostProcessors not to be called if the bean is first touched by a constructor autowirer)
when they say frameworks are good and fast, I say "LOOK AT MY LIFETIME SPENT WORKAROUNDING THEIR ERRORS!!!" -
The nice thing about my current side project is that I don't have to care at all about optimizing. It takes 5 seconds for the motors to do their thing and I spend 95% of that waiting even with my horribly slow (but easy to write) code.1

What is it with people revealing their support requests like some sort of incremental escape room riddle?
Internal operations escalates an issue to development regarding an error importing a binary file format.
Confusion ahoy and blows out to 5 developers (3 senior) before the OP originally comes back 24h later to note that the client requesting this also added a note to say that the software that produces this binary may have changed formats. But they didn't think seem to think it was relevant enough to include.
Honestly unsure what measure of this is lacking basic common sense or basic human decency. And further astounding that for once the client did the right thing and this was occluded internally.2 -
Deleting code and cutting out half the loc in a file and eliminating complexity is the best feeling in the world 😎5

The ruling government coalition of my country officially prohibited ANY pay raises in 2024 and is likely to limit them until 2026, obliterated running tax exemption agreements on Intellectual Property specifically targeting software developers, raised tobacco taxes by 25%, killed fossil fuel-powered company cars while barely investing ANYTHING in electric infrastructure, and severely cut public transport funding.
AM I SUPPOSED TO JUST SIT BACK AND TAKE A YEARLY 5000 EURO LOSS WHILE MY MARKET VALUE INCREASES?? WTF man.
Good job centrists, greens, socialists and liberals. The only thing I can do to punish them is by voting for extreme left or right. Way to go to turn a law-abiding, moderate citizen into a riled-up, disillusioned mofo.20 -
