Moskvarium is an aquarium located in the city of Moscow, Russia. It is considered one of the largest aquariums in Europe and displays a wide collection of marine animals such as Baikal seals, various shark and ray species, and as of December 31st, 2023, two killer whales. The park previously housed three killer whales they acquired from the wild between 2012 and 2014, but two of them have since died.

Incidents[]

In September of 2015, a trainer slipped into the pool and fell onto a killer whale during a show. All three whales swam away and began to show signs of aggression such as tail slapping. The trainer was quickly pulled out of the water with no injury.[1]

In 2016, pictures surfaced that showed Nord covered in rake marks and concerningly underweight.

Many videos have emerged showing extreme aggression between the Moskvarium orcas.[2]

Other videos have shown multiple instances of the whales getting stuck on the stage or slide outs.[3]

Calves[]

In late 2023, it was announced that Naya was in the late stages of pregnancy with a calf sired by Nord.
