Nord (pronounced NORD) or Норд, was an approximately 16-year-old male Russian transient killer whale who lived at the Moskvarium. He was captured on August 13th, 2013 from the Gulf of Sakhalin, Russia at approximately 5 years old. Nord passed away due complications associated with an acute peptic ulcer on June 23rd, 2023 at Moskvarium.
Behavioral Incidents[]
In September 2015, a video was captured of the three orcas at the Mosvarium thrashing their tails at trainers after one of the trainers fell into the water on top of one of the orcas.[1]
Death[]
On June 23rd, 2023, the Mosvarium released a statement announcing that Nord had passed away. His cause of death was determined to be acute peptic ulcers. Up until his death, he was the largest killer whale at the Moskvarium.
