Capitol Hill sex tape scandal
DateDecember 15, 2023; 3 days ago (2023-12-15)
VenueHart Senate Office Building
LocationWashington, D.C.
OutcomeAidan Maese-Czeropski loses his position

In December 2023, a video was released allegedly showing two men having sex in a United States Senate hearing room. One of the men shown in the video was alleged to have been Aidan Maese-Czeropski, a legislative aide to Senator Ben Cardin, Democrat from Maryland. The day after the video was released, Cardin's office released a statement saying that Maese-Czeropski was not employed by the U.S. Senate and declined to comment any further.

Background and video content[edit]

On December 15, 2023, online news outlet The Daily Caller first broke news of the story, publishing a video and still images depicting two men engaging in anal sex, allegedly in the Hart Senate Office Building.[1] The video, which is eight seconds long,[2] was filmed with a cell phone through the perspective of one of the participants, who was over the other participant, who was "hunched over the dais behind which senators would typically sit when conducting official business and questioning witnesses".[3]

The video appears to have been shared within private groups for gay men involved in politics, before being leaked to The Daily Caller.[4][2] Although the staffer's face was blurred in the video posted by The Daily Caller,[2] it was alleged that one of the men involved was Aidan Maese-Czeropski,[4] a staffer of Senator Ben Cardin.[3] Maese-Czeropski had previously published pornographic videos and images under a pseudonym on Twitter.[1]

Aftermath[edit]

Following the video being leaked, Maese-Czeropski posted on LinkedIn, denying the accusations and saying that he "would never disrespect [his] workplace".[5] Maese-Czeropski was later fired from his position in the Senate.[6] In a statement released by Cardin's office on December 16,[7] it was said that there would be "no further comment on this personnel matter".[8]

Maese-Czeropski has threatened to take legal action regarding his alleged identification as the man in the video.[9] Capitol Police has been reported to be investigating the situation.[10]
