Sky PC Demo Update
December 7 2023
The world of Sky has been pretty busy this year, but there’s still a lot happening as we reach the end of 2023! Today we’re sharing some updates on what’s next for the Sky PC demo and what to expect as we go into 2024.
First of all, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has played the demo version of Sky on Steam! Between new players trying Sky for the first time, and veteran players continuing the game on a new platform, when everything was tallied up, we were both one of the most wishlisted games AND one of the most played demos during Next Fest. So, a huge high five and hug spam to all of you who helped Sky reach these accomplishments!
We’ve also really appreciated all the time that players on the PC demo (not to mention PC beta!) have taken to send us bug reports and feedback. This helped us cover far more development ground than we ever could have if we’d tried to do this alone.
As just a few examples, because of your feedback we’ve improved on or added things like mouse and keyboard rebinding, varied graphics options, more controller sensitivity options, and lower crash rates across a wider range of hardware configurations (and there are a lot of those).
But obviously there are still a lot of other areas we’re working on, also thanks to your feedback. This includes things like:
Tuning the UI and controls to keep improving the experience
Steam friend system support
Continued monitoring and improvement of the crash rate (it’s a challenge with so many different hardware configurations but it is absolutely one of our major focuses!)
While we had hoped to release the full PC version this year, we want to be sure that the version of Sky we bring to an official PC launch takes your feedback into account so that it’s the best it can be. This means that we’ll be heads down working on the PC version as we wrap up 2023 and head into 2024.
So what’s next for the PC demo?
First of all, worry not: the demo will remain available to play—we hope you’ll keep up your Sky adventures on PC as we continue development for the official launch later next year.
Because it’s a demo version, it will continue to be a work-in-progress while we keep adding changes and improvements. Since it’s somewhat of a construction zone, performance might be rougher compared to the full live version, or it might be on a slightly different update schedule at times, which means that PC demo players may not be able to join friends on mobile or console who are still on a previous update. While it’s in demo mode, in-app purchases will be unavailable, as before, though purchases made while playing an account on mobile or console will still apply when playing that same account on PC.
In the meantime, please keep posting your feedback and bug reports! These will still be super valuable for us as we bring Sky PC closer to full launch. Be sure to stay tuned to our blog and social channels in the months ahead as we share more details about the next stage of Sky PC development, too.
2024 is going to have a LOT to look forward to: a PC launch, plus Sky’s fifth (5th!!) anniversary, expansions to Aviary Village, new features, IRL events, and—well, other announcements that will have to wait for a little while longer.
We couldn’t have come this far on Sky PC without you all, whether you play the live, beta, or demo versions. Thank you for all of your support, and we can’t wait to share what’s ahead in the months to come. Until then, we’ll see you in the skies!
