That's the insanity with non-replaceable batteries.

A user-replaceable battery is almost like a battery that never dies. No effort wasted with tedious "battery care". No worries about weardown from high usage. Just enjoying using the device.

I am ok to have a bulky phone. In fact, more than happy to have one compared to a slim slightly more slippery non replaceable battery phone

Yes - it is totally unfair to produce devices with difficult to replace batteries - and put the blame on consumers for not charging optimally.

battery replacement should certainly be more affordable, and even encouraged. It’s insane that my parents think they ”need to buy new phones” because their current phones are downthrottled due to battery degradation, they should be encouraged to replace the battery - but ”it’s so expensive, and we might not get updates anymore - so might as well buy a new phone”

This is one thing I hope RightToRepair and similar projects will help

And dare I say it seems like EU regulations have been the most effective way to enforce actual improvements in these kinds of areas (EU sucks in many other areas though, don’t call me an EU regulation lover)

…allthough at the same time - the mere existance of cheaper battery replacement options might not influence a significant amount of consumers.

Many will run their hardware for as long about 3 years and even if battery replacement was free they’d still buy a new device because OS updates are limitied to 3 years.

I solved my battery problem by... Purely accidentally acquiring a battery bank that sits in my backpack

Though really, when I was 18 or so I poofed cuz home problems, and the police kept making my phone boot up... Cuz someone reported me missing. Then they called the places I stayed at. I was drunk so I was so tripped out by it. But if I removed the battery (which you could on those phones) then the problem stopped happening

And now you cannot ever turn off your phone for real. Someone wants to track you even if you turn it off they will run it back on. No more removable batteries. Climate cult should have a riot; why throw out a whole phone when you could reduce the waste, no? But then "muh totalitarian state" goes I guess

But if non-replaceable batteries are outlawed, we are likelier to have replaceable battery phones in two decades.

@electrineer i'm very happy with my FP3. it's remarkably robust, as well. survived a three meter fall onto stone with _no_ visible damage. survived falling into a lake, as well.

I'm a first hand witness that is 100% a deliberate strategy.

I rarely hear how much the 25-75 thing actually helps, which is pretty important info. If it doubles the cycles of the battery (which would be a pretty bold claim in all other contexts), it's exactly making up for the halved cycle length, and I just have a smaller battery.
