Horror and fantasy shows present a variety of adversaries for the heroes to defeat, and some of the best ones they face are not even human. Some of the shows in the previously mentioned genres offer horrifying creatures that help elevate the intense episodes they are in. Whenever they appear on the screen, they make people feel petrified.
Whether they are a monster of the week or one of the main villains of their respective shows, they leave an effectively terrifying first impression. From the Demogorgon in Stranger Things to Clickers in The Last of Us, these are the scariest monsters that television has to offer.

With his tall stature, dark skin, sharp teeth, and beady yellow eyes, George lurks over Kristen when she feels vulnerable and tired at night. He enjoys taunting Kristen and is openly hostile to scaring her and her four children. While he is sometimes down to earth, there is no denying that his appearance and tendencies to frighten Kristen make him terrifying.

Syfy's anthology series Channel Zero covered a new horror story each season, but the first remained memorable for several reasons. One contributing factor was the inventively horrifying antagonist, the Tooth Child, based on a creepypasta of the same name.
Without spoiling its identity, the Tooth Child was once a child who got brainwashed by a children's program and developed psychic powers. After its accidental death, the spirit was resurrected in a body made entirely of human teeth. With dangerous abilities and inhuman physical traits, the Tooth Child was prone to give people nightmares.

As one of the best monster-of-the-week shows, Grimm offered many terrifying creatures called Wesen for protagonist Nick Burkhardt and his allies to hunt down. Throughout six seasons, viewers witnessed how scary and deadly the Wesen were. One species with the scariest appearance and one of the most haunting introductions was the Aswang in the episode "Mommy Dearest."
Aswangs were bald, gray creatures with reminiscent features of a ghoul and a bat, including fangs and claws. They also had forked tongues that could pierce someone's skin. As seen in the episode's opening, the Aswang used its tongue to inject chemicals into a pregnant woman's womb, which became one of Grimm's darkest moments.

The X-Files had many unexplainable cases involving monsters and aliens for Fox Mulder and Dana Scully to solve. While its late-2010s revival didn't have the same spark as its original run, it still provided plenty of scary creatures, one being the frightening Mr. Chuckle Teeth.
Appearing in the episode "Familiar," Mr. Chuckle Teeth was originally a toy of a children's show mascot before it turned into a sinister human-sized entity. As a result of witchcraft, the possessed toy would lure people into the forest to their deaths. His creepy and toothy smile, bulging eyes, and silent demeanor were sure to leave viewers petrified long after the episode ended.

The Terror Season 1 was an incredible season of horror television that knew how to keep viewers on edge. Two naval ship crews became trapped in ice and had to confront several obstacles, including a deadly monster known as the Tuunbaq.
Based on a spiritual entity from Inuit mythology, the Tuunbaq appeared as a huge bear-like creature. The monster used the icy environment to its advantage and mainly hid in the shadowy fog when hunting down the characters, leaving behind a trail of dead bodies. While it initially had limited screen time, the final episodes revealed the Tuunbaq in its entirety, which was satisfying for any horror fan.

Long-running sci-fi series Doctor Who rarely ventures into horror territory, but "Blink" - an episode from David Tennant's tenure as the Doctor - is an infamous example. In the episode, the Doctor gets trapped in another time era, so he communicates with Sally Sparrow to stop statue-like creatures called the Weeping Angels from reaching the TARDIS.
The Weeping Angels seem like ordinary statues from their appearance, but their cleverly timed movements and desiring hunger for energy make them an eerie presence in "Blink." It's a difficult challenge for the characters to evade these monsters because they use darkness and their statuesque physicality as advantages. As a result, the Weeping Angels act as a perfect antagonist for one of Doctor Who's scariest episodes.

Some of the best Buffy the Vampire Slayer antagonists weren't even vampires. A brilliant example of the show's non-vampiric villains came in the form of the Gentlemen in Season 4's "Hush." The episode followed the Sunnydale residents as they became haunted by creepy creatures who stole their voices and hungered for human hearts.
The Gentlemen appeared as bald, pale demons who wore black suits and always smiled through their pointed teeth. They also never uttered a sound, which made them an even more formidable foe for the characters to defeat. The idea of voice-stealing monsters was enough to frighten viewers, but the Gentlemen made for an inventive Buffy episode that used little to no words.

- Cast
- Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Anna Torv, lamar johnson
- Main Genre
- Drama
- Seasons

HBO's The Last of Us successfully adapts several story elements from the acclaimed video games. One of the best things the show gets right is all the infected creatures that plague the post-apocalyptic world. There are different variations of what happens when humans turn infected, but the Clickers are the most dangerous.
When a human is infected long enough, it evolves into a Clicker. What these monsters lack in sight, they certainly make up for in hearing. They use their abnormal clicking sounds as a form of echolocation to find any uninfected humans. Plus, the growing fungus on their faces, jagged teeth, and impressively fast endurance make them a monster no one should come across.
