EU Leaders Meet in Bid for Unity

BRUSSELS–European Union leaders are holding a video conference Tuesday evening on the Israel-Hamas conflict and seeking coordination after days of tension within the bloc. Discussions are expected to center on how to help get aid to Gaza, rescue European hostages, avoid a regional conflict and build momentum for peace efforts.

An announcement by a senior official of the EU’s executive that aid to the Palestinians would be suspended produced a rapid backlash from member states, and the decision was partly walked back. The EU is one of the biggest official donors to the Palestinian authority, and said during the weekend that it was tripling humanitarian aid for Palestinians to 75 million euros, equivalent to around $79 million.
