Smartphone camera applications need to show this notification whenever a user records a video vertically.
Otherwise, many smartphone users will never learn to drop the vertical filming habit and to film horizontally.
This is a major benefit of dedicated cameras and camcorders: their user interface is aligned for being held horizontally, so people do so habitually. This is not the case with mobile phones. -
Hi, Anybody can help me do this? I'm trying to build Golang from source using the github actions. I'm new to github actions and golang both. So, github actions keep failing. I'm trying to follow this: https://github.com/golang/go/...
Anybody can write me a yml file for this? Thanks a lot -
Worked for a team where Scrum was thrust on it to fix/cover up bad management decisions.
Manager is really enthusiastic (to impress his new boss) and gets a bunch of colored post-it sticky notes for stories and shit. Team spends a bunch of time carefully writing stories & etc and arranging said notes on a white board. Come in the next day and 90% of them fell off due to condensation, or such such.
Left the group, with the rest of the senior dev staff, after the "15 minute" standup expanded a minimum of 1 hour each day... and the SM carefully writing down everything everyone said.
A co-dev gave me some career advice - "when the pilots are drunk, it's time to get off the plane."1 -
Can anyone tell me what bun does and what’s the hype about, like if I have a vue project does bun build it for me and make it faster? Or it’s just for backend code optimization1

Ha ha! Fuck you Apple. Forced to use USB c after your stupid charger games every iphone release.
Its about time. You pricks keep forcing new chargers on me. I have a drawer full of obsolete chargers.4 -
when the swift language cannot infer the generic type from the invocation, it also doesn't want you to explicily specify generic type in the bracket...
says i have a method:
```
func createDeferred<T>() -> ABC.XYZ.Deferred<T>
```
then if you call it like this:
```
let dfd = createDeferred()
```
It complaints that it cannot infer generic type T, which make sense.
But it also doesn't want you to code it this way:
```
let dfd = createDeferred<Int>("countProperty")
```
if you do so, it mumbles gibberish: "Cannot explicitly specialize a generic function".
What it actually trying to say is, you should put the type somewhere else so that it can show off its smartness to "infer" it from there:
```
let dfd: ABC.XYZ.Deferred<Int> = createDeferred()
```
with a few more typing and findout what exact type it is, it finally works.
the moral of the story is, in order to communicate with the wonderful work apple genius made, you don't tell it what is the answer straight away, that's defiance, you must hide the answer somewhere intricately and let the smarty swifty swift to find it out for you. -
I'm gifting a custom macro pad built using a Raspberry Pico to my brother. I don't want him having to reprogram the pico every time he wants to change macros. Do you know of any program that allow him to change it easily or do I have to create my own?
Thanks!1 -
Question: How would you reimagine the dev interview process, trying to make it efficient to find ingenious freshers?
I'm gonna be hiring full MERN stack dev freshers soon. I hate coding interviews, and I just want to test their ingenuity and problem solving, not if they can code a textbook algorithm.
Plan so far was to ask them questions like: "What happens when you like a link in the browser" to gauge how deep they could track a request and understand the internet infrastructure.
And make them audit gpt generated react code, and optimize it.
What're your thoughts, folks?8 -
I decided I am going to get full into Minecraft modding. It will be an opportunity to learn Java and Kotlin. I want to explore some game ideas in a well defined sandbox.
Some things I want to explore.
1. AI that helps you build and survive. This fascinates me and seems like it could be a good challenge. I like the idea of learning how to separate structures into chunks. I think I will learn a bit about tree data structures here. Maybe learn something about BSP trees (if applicable).
2. The idea of an RPG quest system tacked onto a sandbox. I want to spawn structures and create non-repetitive story lines. Minecraft can be really desolate if you are not playing on a server. Worlds tend to be empty and devoid of story.
3. Maybe try a hand at terrain gen. This could be fun to explore entropy math. It is fun to draw things with math.
I am sure I will come up with other fun things to explore here.7 -
Did a backup.
Did a bulk import to a service (netbox, great tool for network documentation by the way).
Fucked it up.
Back to backup.
Fixed bug.
Fucking gerbils on ecstasy (devs) annoying the fuck out of me.
Lobotomizing meetings.
Yuck coffee. Cold, stale and over extracted.
Gerbils planning a mutiny. Killed them with a big cheese wheel (lots of stupid boring tasks as they seem to be completely missing stuff to do).
Deleted backup.
Redid import.
Small typo.
Find the mistake...
I just love it when a small task becomes a huge fuckup due to too many disturbances.
Luckily SQL UPDATE went well....
Nothing's more fun than to patch a live database.
Yeah. I didn't wanna do a new backup. :)
The "I don't give a crap mood" is sometimes a great way to accelerate tasks... -
I'm genuinely curious: Is there anyone here who is offended by the use of the name 'master' for a Git repository 'main' branch? If we all moved to 'main' and never used 'master' again (for anything, Git or not) would that make a difference to you?30

How is randomly calling people without any prior discussion still the primary way to conduct phone interviews? It's like selecting olympic runners by doing a prior survey of people who sometimes go jogging, at random hours of the day telling them to get to your office as fast as possible and taking their distance over time as their score on the national leaderboard.
Especially when I'm already in contact with the recruiter over e-mail or IM, it would take no effort whatsoever to send a message like "could we have a call in an hour?" It would feel haphazard and somewhat disrespectful to receive an e-mail like that, right? Well, this would be a million times better than an unprompted call.3 -
There's a guy in standup that just yells his update in an Indian accent.
He's not even Indian. 💀
Its too funny, I can't even feel offended.
