The German Autobahn was a key infrastructure project that provided work to millions of Germans.

The Autobahn was constructed using only German materials and designed so as not to destroy the German landscape or disturb wildlife habitats.

Hitler, along with Ferdinand Porsche, designed the People’s Car; the most built and economical car in the world. Hitler called the car Volkswagen.

Autobahn is the fourth studio album by German electronic music band Kraftwerk, released in November 1974 by Philips Records. The album marked several personnel changes in the band, which was initially a duo consisting of Florian Schneider and Ralf Hütter; later, the group added Klaus Röder on guitar and flute, and Wolfgang Flür on percussion. The album also completed the group's transition from the experimental krautrock style of their earlier work to an electronic pop sound consisting mostly of synthesizers and drum machines. Recording started at the group's own Kling Klang facility, but was predominantly made at Conny Plank's studio. Autobahn also includes lyrics and a new look for the group that was suggested by Emil Schult, an associate of Schneider and Hütter.
Most of the album is taken up by the 22-minute "Autobahn", featuring lyrics by Schneider, Hütter, and Schult. The song was inspired by the group's joy of driving on Germany's autobahns, and recorded music that reflected a trip emulating the sounds of a vehicle. The album's release in West Germany saw little press attention. "Autobahn" was released as a single and received airplay at a Chicago radio station, leading it to spread across the United States. In 1975, the song became an international hit and Kraftwerk's first release of their music in the US. "Autobahn"'s success led to the band touring the United States with new member Karl Bartos, who would replace Röder, followed by a tour of the United Kingdom.
Initial reception to Autobahn was mixed; it received negative reviews from Rolling Stone and Village Voice's critic Robert Christgau who felt the music was inferior to earlier electronic music from Wendy Carlos and Mike Oldfield. Other critics found the track "Autobahn" hypnotic and arresting for its imagery of driving on the autobahn. Critics from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Newsday included the album in their "Honorable Mentions" sections of their year-end lists. Later reception was unanimously enthusiastic; Simon Witter wrote in NME the album is of "enormous historical significance" and Simon Reynolds said the album is where Kraftwerk's music really starts to matter. Musicians of the 1970s and 1980s, including David Bowie, cited the album as a major influence.

2022: Socialist climate activist blocks German autobahn and gets removed

Da sich ja nicht nur ein Zug schlängeln kann - sondern auch die Autobahn, ist es umso erstaunlicher, daß die "Autobahn 7" von Illerkirchberg nach Brokstedt schlängelt. Noch mehr 7er verbinden beide Events.
So langsam ergibt sich ein Bild.

SCHUMI ON THE ROAD?

Auf bundesdeutschen Autobahnen rollt haufenweise militärisches Gerät in Richtung Osten. Da bleibt kein Zweifel offen, wohin die Reise geht.

Entstehungsgeschichte des Clips "Autoput"
 
"Ein Loop braucht ein Video - ein Video braucht Bewegung", dies war der Ausgangspunkt für "Autoput".
 
Wolfgang Gerrer hatte einen Loop erstellt und mit dem Tenorsaxophon darüber improvisiert.
Seine Schwester und Schwager fuhren 2020 mit dem Kfz von München nach Bulgarien - streckenweise auf dem berühmten Autoput.
Im Wagen war eine GoProCam montiert, die alle 30 Sekunden ein Foto schoss.
Beide Elemente verschmolzen ganz folgerichtig und natürlich in dem 2:44 Minuten-Clip "Autoput".

Karfreitag und ich mache mich auf den Weg zur Arbeit. Drei bis viermal im Jahr führt mich meine Tour von Peine bis nach Magdeburg. Der Weg führt dann über die oft so viel befahrene und völlig verstopfte Autobahn 2. In 2020 ist es meine erste Tour in diese Richtung an der ich Euch ca. ab Königslutter gerne mitfahren lassen möchte. Das Programm des NDR1 Radio Niedersachsen begleitet mich stets auf meinen Wegen und war auch auf dieser Fahrt mit dabei. Sonne und Wolken zeigten sich von ihrer besten Seite - bestes Frühlingswetter.

So etwas habe ich noch nie erlebt. Es ist das eingetreten was viele der täglichen Pendler und Vielfahrer wohl schon einige Tage sehr gut kennen. Es ist 2020, Corona (ein Virus auf den ich hier nicht weiter eingehen möchte) bestimmt das öffentliche Leben und bewirkt dabei so einiges. Und so staunte ich nicht schlecht als ich auf dieser A2 entlang fuhr und kaum Autos unterwegs waren. Es gab Streckenabschnitte, da war weder vor noch hinter ein Auto zu sehen. Ich muss zugeben, es war ein sehr angenehmes Fahren. Und dann nahm ich mir die Zeit und fuhr da so gemütlich meines Weges bis zum nächsten Haltepunkt. Der eine oder andere überholte dann und wann und ich musste erstaunlicherweise auch hier etwas sehr positives feststellen, dass ich so in keinster Weise erwartet hatte. Selbst die überholenden Fahrzeuge fuhren in einer angemessenen Geschwindigkeit. Man hatte das Gefühl, dass sich jeder etwas mehr Zeit gönnte. Das machte das ganze sehr angenehm.

Die Strecke entlang der A2 führte mich vorbei an Königslutter, Helmstedt, dem Grenzübergang Marienborn, Alleringersleben, Bornstedt bis nach Magdeburg. Zurück ging es am Abend über die ehemalige B6, die Strecke über den Harz und auch hier waren sehr wenige Fahrzeuge unterwegs.
