About Yep

We built Yep from the ground up so that we can give 90% of ad revenue to content creators. Why?

Well, we’ve all gotten used to a search model that’s arguably unfair. A model where search engines generate more revenue from content than their creators themselves. Where paywalls and affiliate links have insidiously become part of the search experience. It's almost as if the traditional back-of-the-book index has become more valuable than the book itself.

Yep is our answer to this. Our mission is to go back to the basics:

supporting
good
content

Here's how it works.

We offer an unbiased, private search experience that rewards and compensates the makers behind the content. To do this, we use a 90/10 revenue share business model where we pay 90% of advertising revenue directly to these makers.

Simply put, when you use Yep, you’re directly putting money in the pockets of your favorite content creators.

With a revenue share model like this, billions of dollars will be paid to publishers. New kinds of businesses will appear, creating new forms of content that previously didn't exist.

Take YouTube for example. How much of their current content do you think would exist if they didn't share ad revenue with creators? 20%? 50%? 80%? Indeed, it might be that 80% of YouTube's highest-quality content wouldn't be made in the first place. Apply that logic to the Internet that we have now, and perhaps 80% of the highest quality content isn't getting created right now.

It's no wonder that this is the case, given the current state of things. Can you run a sustainable website with unbiased independent product reviews, but without affiliate links or expensive subscription models? No. But you could, if search engines were sharing their ad revenue. Can you make a living from sharing quality information about your passions, whether it’s about pancake recipes or recent advancements in machine learning? No. But you could, if search engines were sharing their ads revenue.

In short, the Yep business model motivates individuals from all walks of life to share their unique knowledge, and pushes for high-quality content to fill every page of search results.

When this happens, everyone benefits.

By using Yep, you’re automatically contributing to the community and thanking knowledge organizers and creators with actual dollars. All while enjoying an unbiased, private search experience filled with top-notch content by passionate, well-compensated makers.

Roadmap

We think it’s important that you know what we’re working on right now, as well as what we're focusing on next.

Now

Creating a great search experience is our top priority. We're working on:

  • Improving search result quality for text search, image search and News

  • Improving local search

Next

When we're happy with the quality of search results, advertising and revenue share will be added. Right now, there’s no revenue to share.

Background

Yep is the brainchild of Dmytro Gerasymenko, and was brought to life by the Ahrefs team.

Ahrefs runs an internet-scale bot that’s been crawling the entire web 24/7 since 2010, storing, indexing and structuring petabytes of information. With this data, we created one of the leading SEO toolsets worldwide.

Our aim has always been to build good products faster than the giants and avoid feeding them endlessly by leaving money in the community.
