With more than 45 years of experience as a physician, William Summerlin, M.D., has served the northwest Arkansas community as Director of Summerlin Dermatology Clinic since 1987. Dedicated to excellence in the clinical medicine and surgery services he provides, Dr. William Summerlin has never had a malpractice suit filed against him in his private medical practice.

 

Dr. William Summerlin completed his B.A. in Philosophy and Biology as well as his M.D. at Emory University in Atlanta. He then took a position in the Army Medical Corps after spending a year at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Operating with the Surgeon General's burn team at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, he treated numerous patients wounded in Vietnam for two years.

 

Newly interested in skin treatment, William Summerlin, M.D., then pursued a fellowship opportunity at the Stanford University Medical Center. He initially engaged in dermatology, pathology, and cancer surgery training. In his third year in Palo Alto, Dr. Summerlin earned a position as Director of the Dermatology Clinic at the Stanford University Medical Center. The following year, he accepted the Head of Dermatology position at the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital, which is affiliated with Stanford University. He subsequently pursued a research fellowship at the University of Minnesota.

 

Prior to establishing his current practice, Dr. William Summerlin practiced in the New Orleans area for a decade. During this time, he taught at the Tulane University Medical School. He additionally assisted in developing a new regional hospital and spearheaded efforts to construct a $2.5 million YMCA facility. William Summerlin, M.D. is currently engaged in writing a book on the history of American medicine over the past half century.
