Gold on the Ceiling Lyrics
Down in the waves
She screams again
Roar at the door
My mind can't take much more
[Pre-Chorus]
I could never drown in
[Chorus]
They wanna get my
They wanna get my gold on the ceiling
I ain't blind, just a matter of time
Before you steal it
It's alright, ain't no guardin' my high
[Verse 2]
Clouds covered love's
Barb-wired snare
Strung up, strung out
I just can't go without
[Pre-Chorus]
I could never drown in
[Chorus]
They wanna get my
They wanna get my gold on the ceiling
I ain't blind, just a matter of time
Before you steal it
It's alright, ain't no guardin' my high
They wanna get my
They wanna get my gold on the ceiling
I ain't blind, just a matter of time
Before you steal it
It's alright, ain't no guardin' my high
Gold on the ceiling
I ain't blind, just a matter of time
Before you steal it
It's alright, ain't no guardin' my high

Dan has said that this song is about “the illusory nature of material success”. With that in mind, I think it’s clearly about being in love with a gold digger (or several) and resigning to the fact that they only want him because he’s successful.
Also, I think it’s “Ain’t no guard in my heart”
its ain’t no guard in my house
The lyrics are definitely “Ain’t no guard in my house”, listen to the “Tour Rehearsal Tapes” version and you can hear it pretty clearly.
First, since we are talking about drowning, it stands to reason that the “gold on the ceiling” is the sun as seen from under water. The “she” in question is a toxic female,I was thing of Carney’s wife whom he divorced and it was obviously someone who harmed both men and certainly put an incredible pressure to their childhood friendship since Auerbach would make an album on his own with the consequences we know.So Auerbach is saying that he will not involve himself in that toxic relationship and that the sun, or light at the end of the tunnel cannot be taken from him and he needs no guard because he knows that he is not involved in that breakdown.
If I am right, then this is a song of eternal friendship and the faith that Auerbach has in it to continue to flourish.
ive seen it" aint no guard in my house" “ aint no god in my house” “ aint no blood in my eye” anyone have which is correct?
i feel like its about paranoia and maybe a bit about protecting something you want but cant get yourself hense gold on the ceiling you cant reach it but you know its there
I dont understand why the wrong lyrics were submitted, as in the Live variants you can clearly hear “Aint no guard in my house”
I think this line is intentionally unclear pronounced different each time.
It’s like that one song PPPOISON
The lyrics should go:
“…
Before you steal it,
its alright, aint no guard in my house.
…”
