We are looking for an ecological economist to join our growing faculty at the LIS.
This description of expertise is deliberately broad as we seek interdisciplinary scientists and teachers who can cover both ecology as well as economics as it pertains to discussions of climate change and sustainability.
We are looking to develop our interdisciplinary approach to sustainability, climate change and topics in biodiversity and you will be a key member of our growing team, teaching across undergraduate, masters and professional development programmes.

The post is for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor. Salaries are aligned with the wider university sector and may range from approx £40,000 to £60,000 depending on experience.
Requirements
Essential:
- Focussed on creative and impactful teaching/learning – with ambition to create the best interdisciplinary undergraduate, postgraduate and professional learning possible
- Interested to work on a real-world, problem-based curriculum with external partners
- Experienced in working effectively in teams
- Interested to challenge yourself and to learn new things/upskill in new areas of knowledge not linked to your previous experience, and to model this as a co-learner with students
- Interested in teaching and learning a range of quantitative and qualitative research methods and skills
- An academic interested to see your discipline (s) in new lights and through different lenses – e.g. in terms of mental models, in frames from external sectors, etc
- Strong interest to work in an interdisciplinary context
- Proven teaching experience in the relevant areas - but we are also open to considering new talent who can convince us through the extended interview process that they are the right person
- Willingness to participate in wider LIS activities including pastoral support, admissions and recruitment
Desirable:
- Experience of mixed methodological approaches, including quantitative and qualitative
- Some disciplinary grounding in ethnoecology, ethnobotany, environmental anthropology, or a related subject
- Experience of or interest in other disciplinary perspectives on the environment, e.g. from politics or psychology
- Ability to use perspectives from complexity sciences to understand ecosystems as complex self-regulating systems
- Experience of teaching at postgraduate level (UK FHEQ Level 7 or above)
- A PhD in a relevant area, although proven experience, e.g. in industry or government, could also be of interest

Additional Information:
We are looking for successful applicant to join our team full team from September but by the 1 Jan 2024 at the latest. The role will have a soft onboarding process and the involvement of successful applicants immediately on a considerably smaller fractionality or other (e.g. consultancy) basis.
The role is for a permanent contract. We are happy to consider some flexible working arrangements. Please submit your CV and a cover letter as part of your application.
Candidates who are successful in the first round will be asked to present a video on a topic to be clarified in due course. Those selected for the shortlist will be invited to carry out an in-person teaching session with some of our students as well as a panel interview made up of Faculty and other LIS personnel.
