This is an exciting opportunity to take a key role in delivering an ambitious new programme to improve the quality of research conducted within the Faculty of Life Sciences. The post-holder will work alongside the Data Integrity and Quality Assurance Programme Director to develop a framework for the Faculty of Life Sciences to improve research transparency and integrity throughout the lifecycle of a research project.
The project is a new initiative which will have specific deliverables that are overseen by an external Steering Board. Alongside the Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Research Culture and the Data Integrity and Quality Assurance Director, the post-holder will have the opportunity co-design the project deliverables and be responsible for implementing specific aspects of the project directly.
- Providing formal training as well as hands-on practical advice to help career researchers to implement reproducibility toolkits within initial pilot studies;
- Furthering the development of toolkits for research methodology improvement and data stewardship following feedback from pilot studies;
- Providing formal training to a wider group for researchers from postgraduate level upwards as the framework is rolled out within the Faculty of Life Sciences;
- Be an advocate for Open Science practices and assist researchers to implement these practices in their own research;
- Conducting quality assurance activities on completed research to assess robustness and reproducibility prior to publication.
- Have experience in designing and running research studies in the life sciences in laboratory, online, or field settings;
- Have skills in quantitative research including using statistical software packages such as R, SPSS or Stata;
- Have experience of preparation of manuscripts, datasets and other research objects for publication, either individually or as part of a team;
- Are able to demonstrate a process-orientated approach to evaluating research methodologies.
