iOS version share of Apple devices worldwide 2016-2023

The new mobile operating system iOS 16 was installed on 81 percent of the Apple devices that accessed the Apple App Store in February 2023, while the older iOS 15 was running on 15 percent of mobile devices.

Apple’s smartphone market share

Apple held a 16.8 percent share of the global smartphone sales market in 2021, but historically reports sales share increases during the fourth quarter because of the annual fall release of a new device and the holiday season. Demand for the iPhone12 and 12 mini, as well as iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max led to Apple announcing a record sales figures of more than 90 million units sold worldwide in the fourth quarter of 2020. In the third quarter of Apple's 2022 fiscal year, iPhone sales accounted for roughly 49 percent of Apple's total revenue in the same quarter.
