In July, Morgan Stanley’s chief legal officer, Eric Grossman, criticised the remote working policies of law firms retained by the bank. Whether voices like his will win out or not depends on where you look: David Solomon is adamant the trend is but an “aberration” whilst Mark Zuckerberg forecasts that, within 5-10 years, 50% of Facebook staff may work remotely.
The possibility is real: 74% of 317 CEOs polled by Gartner planned to permanently move at least some staff remote. But organisations, including law firms, who remote staff (yes, it’s a verb now) will not achieve their full potential.
