Chemist with a worldwide reputation becomes the head of research laboratory at RUDN University

Professor Rafael Luque is a recognized expert in the fields of Organic Chemistry and Synthetic solutions, search for alternative fuels and environmental management. Thus, his research in the field of nanomaterials – in particular, their magnetic properties – allows a more targeted use of drugs to make a focus on the disease, not the entire body. This reduces the stress on the liver, blood system, and shortens the amount of medications needed for successful treatment or prevention. Professor Rafael Luque is an acknowledged global expert – his h-index is h-60.

Together we will be able to unite the efforts of Russia and Spain in increasing the life expectancy of all mankind – we will have access to the best equipment, successful world practices and the brightest heads of modern organic chemistry», - Professor Luque commented.

The united staff of the scientific laboratory will work on the creation of new substances and increase their effectiveness for use in medicine. One of the goals of the research at RUDN is to find the cure for Alzheimer's disease, which ranks 4th in the world among the causes of death.  Professor Luque will oversee the course of work, as well as give lectures and hold seminars for students and postgraduates of RUDN University.

«Professor Luque was interested in our scientific ideas and in the opportunity for a joint study of the properties, production techniques and methods of using new chemical compounds in biomedicine. In particular, we have assembled a world-class team of experts to work on heterocyclic reactions for Green Chemistry», - Viktor Khrustalev said, the Director of the Joint Institute for Chemical Research of the RUDN University. 

The Research center for molecular design and synthesis of innovative compounds for medicine was opened at RUDN University on December, 14th in 2017. The team of chemists at the Center is already represented by scientists from Bangladesh, India and Russia. Professor Rafael Luque will represent a Spanish approach towards the research.
