There's a widespread idea in Korea, even among Korean linguists, that Hangul is "superior" to other writing systems because it's "scientific" "logical" etc.

Most of the reasons for such claim are factually wrong to begin with. 1. "Hangul was created out of nowhere" It probably wasn't (Phags-Pa), and even if it was, it's not unique in that regards (Ol Chiki)

2. "Consonants and vowels were created separately" Also not unique (Zhuyin, Brailles)

3. "Hangul visually codes phonological features" Which applies to most phonological scripts as well (voicedness in Kana, vowel length in Thai) Even Latin does it: C-G, P-B

4. "It's easy to learn" You can learn Cyrillic or Greek in a few hours, not that different.

None of which makes a writing system "superior" to others, of course.

I'm guessing being surrounded by Hanja and Katakana as alternatives does help a bit here :)
