There's a lot more to this story than what's in Haaretz. An editor, Icewhiz, was banned from Poland related topics for faking sources and quotations and making racist statements. In revenge he began harassing other editors and went and fed Mr. Benjakob a pack of lies.

You were banned for faking sources, etc and for making "inappropriate ethnically derogatory comments"
The secret evidence isn't that "secret". It's your twitter, Icewhiz. Wikipedia does not tolerate Holocaust deniers. It blocks them on sight. Same goes for abusive cyberbullies
Hi Mark. I'm not GRU, just new to twitter. You've been harassed by Gamergaters and other low life bastards before. Do you think it's okay if Icewhiz does the same thing to others?

Problems with Haaretz story
Macro: insinuation that editors named in the article had something to do with the hoax. They didn't. That Icewhiz was banned for uncovering it. He didn't uncover it, it wasn't the reason for his ban. He latched onto it to make himself into a martyr
