Beneath Ceaseless Skies is a literary fantasy fiction market. They are looking for stories set in a “secondary world,” which means it should be different from our current world in some way. This can include being in the past or present or different by the addition of a different climate, creatures, or physical laws (like using magic).
Fiction: They only publish original stories which have never been printed before. They pay $0.08 a word and prefer stories of 15,000 words or fewer. They will consider stories over 15,000 words, but stories of a longer length must be exceptional.

High County News is a non-profit weekly magazine dedicated to telling the western United States and Alaska’s story, history, and current events. They offer a byline and a 25% kill fee.
Nonfiction: They are looking for book excerpts, essays, personal experiences, exposure, humor, or travel. The length can be up to 4900 words.
Columns: Back Page Essay — 700–900 words.

Lake Superior Magazine is a bi-monthly publication that covers the Lake Superior region. This includes current events, history, lifestyle, tourism, and the environment.
They publish nonfiction articles, departments, and photography. They sometimes publish illustrations, cartoons, and fiction, but either rarely or only assigned, so we will just be focusing on nonfiction and photography.
Nonfiction: They are looking for manuscripts of 800–2,000 words, and for articles, they prefer them to be accompanied by photos. Well-researched features of 1,600–2,000 words pay $200.00–400.00. Department and columns are 800–1,200 words, and payment ranges between $75.00–200.00.
Photography: They also publish photography. They pay $50.00 per photo and $150.00 per cover photo.
