Entries are invited for the 2023 Bedfordshire County Championship.
The tournament is open to players who qualify in one or more of the following criteria:
Are a member of a club that is affiliated to the Bedfordshire County Chess Association.
Were born in the county of Bedfordshire.
Live in the county of Bedfordshire.
This tournament will be a six round Swiss competition. The opening round will be held at Milton Keynes Chess Club on Thursday, 5th January 2023, starting at 19:30.
Players can arrange to play a round on a date and at a venue more convenient to them, provided that you inform the Tournament Controller before the scheduled date given in the table above. The first round must be completed no later than Saturday, 21st January 2023.
Bedfordshire League rules will apply to this competition. The rate of play is 35 moves in 70 minutes, then 10 minutes will be added to finish the game. All moves will receive a 10 second increment.
Pairings will be made based on ECF Standard play ratings as of 1st December 2022.
Players may request a half-point bye for any round except round six.
Players must to follow any COVID-19 precaution requirements in place at the venue where the round is played.
There will be guaranteed prizes for the Champion and Runner-Up. There will also be a 'Slow Starter' prize for those with one or zero points after three rounds. If there are enough entries, there will also be a Rating prize.
The entry fee is £5.00 for members of the English Chess Federation and £25.00 for non-members. Entry fees will be collected on the evening of the first round at Milton Keynes Chess Club.
