Update on the Dell docking station saga: The third docking station, the 19TB, which did not work with display port is now presenting a variety of issues with hdmi as well: 1-The monitor blinks and goes dark in the middle of my work, 2-The USB ports occasionally stop working, etc.

After a long struggle with this... er... $213 dock I had to go back to just using the normal charger and this... $80 dongle. Works fine. Also just the charger and a $20 display port USB C adapter works as well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ah yes, apple’s fault for Dell not following the USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 spec properly. A better choice might have been a surface connector style thing to avoid confusion despite being proprietary.
