Introduction

Every successful leader must face problems while in their position; the way the leader deals with a problem is presented towards the leader’s effectiveness, efficiency as well as their style being contributed to the company. This assignment will discuss upon the background of the company as well as expounding upon the leader of the company and the problem which has been faced within the company and channeling upon the solutions being taken to solve the problem being short-term and long-term solutions in a live example of a company.

Chen has an incredible career journey, where he served for many companies and institutes and in high levels. His journey began in 1979, where he was the Design Analyst for Unisys. After that, he granted the place of a general manager and vice president of the Convergent RISC Platform Division and the Convergent UNIX Systems Group. After that, he served Pyramid Technology Corporation, as a vice president in 1991, then a president, chief operating officer, and a director from 1993 until 1995. Then, he served as a vice president of Siemens Nixdorf in 1995, in 1996; he got a promotion where he served as a president and chief executive officer. In 1997 chen joined Sybase as a CEO and president, and became the chairman in 1998. Chen joining Sybase was the most essential part in his job career, where he was able to develop a successful and very strong reputation regarding to what he did. Chen used his leadership qualities and his knowledge to save Sybase from bankruptcy and bring it back to profitability. Currently, Chen is the Independent Director and Member of Audit Committee of The Walt Disney Company since 2004, the Director and Member of Human Resource Committee of Wells Fargo & Company since 2006, and finally and most importantly the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BlackBerry Limited since 2013.

Chen is considered a transformation leader, such leaders are considered inspirational and motivational, they also have a vision and guide to change, to link it to Chen, Chen was hired at the Blackberry Limited Company after the former CEO, before he was hired there was not motivation for the employees, whereas Chen strived to make his employees motivated again and was very visionary in the goals of the company.
