Wtf Microsoft...
Found out the hard way that copying a line of code from Teams chat will sometimes convert the spaces into unrecognized ASCII char.
Spent a few hours yesterday to fix the bad chars.

Samsung apparently thinks they are doing us users a favour with their "genius" TV block feature.
Let the following be clear: I will never get a television which can be remotely disabled by ANY one, even if allegedly for my benefit.
In fact, I'd be happier with 768p "HD ready" garbage from 2005 that at least works reliably than a shiny "QLED+" Samsung TV that can fail without warning at the press of a button at some giant corporation's headquarters.
Remember the May 2019 Firefox incident?
"We can remotely disable your TV, but it's just for your protec...." Get lost.6 -
Just my opinion, but a software dev job shouldn't be stressful for 9+ months of a year.
I understand sometimes the company wants to launch a product on a deadline, so people have to do extra time at work.
Or an urgent bug fix is needed on the system which requires someone to put in overtime.
But a stressful job for all 12 months of a year is just not worth it, whatever the salary may be.
What do you think?3 -
In russian, wagtails are called “трясогузка”, literally “a twerking bird”. “Трясо” is “shaking”, “гузка” is an obsolete term for “booty”, not tail. Hence twerking bird.7

I'm thinking of turning my hobby into a career in the future. So I'm wondering, is it standard practice to use StackOverflow and web forums alike when doing software development in a professional setting? Is it generally looked down upon? I'm asking because I find myself using it every now and again, sometimes for silly things.
Thanks!8 -
I would have never guessed when I my steam deck that my laptop and desktop would die the the same week my grandpa would die. An I would be tasked to make a memorial video for him. But the steam deck is truly the best console ever even does video editing better then I ever expected.4

*3 weeks after going back and forth with HR, technical interviews, 10 days of working on a whole ass complex project alone etc*
Interviewer: you're hired. Your initial salary will be $500/month and as you progress we can give you a raise
Me: ...i feel like i just got slapped with a dick across the face and spat on with a huge phlegm2 -
Things that I will do during the next few weeks at work because I am an asshole:
Write an entire CLI utility in Rust for internal processes, no one on my city understands or even knows that Rust exists.
Write a small desktop app as proof of concept for another department that had made the idea some time ago in either: GnuSTEP Obj-C or Lazarus Pascal for the same reason as the Rust application.
Job security people. And I have a tendency to write things in stuff that no one else uses.3 -
Stay the fuck on topic
The amount of dailies, sprint reviews or the likes I had where someone started to discuss super specific technical details that only concern like 2 out of the 12 people in the meeting is just insane -
How to get cheap engagement for your shitty tech website:
- write an article about Android vs iOS (even better if you state that one is better than the other justifying that with very vague points)
- share it on Facebook where hordes of people with their brain stuck in early teenage years will fiercely fight for their mobile platform of choice
- profit! -
I'm fixing a security exploit, and it's a goddamn mountain of fuckups.
First, some idiot (read: the legendary dev himself) decided to use a gem to do some basic fucking searching instead of writing a simple fucking query.
Second, security ... didn't just drop the ball, they shit on it and flushed it down the toilet. The gem in question allows users to search by FUCKING EVERYTHING on EVERY FUCKING TABLE IN THE DB using really nice tools, actually, that let you do fancy things like traverse all the internal associations to find the users table, then list all users whose password reset hashes begin with "a" then "ab" then "abc" ... Want to steal an account? Hell, want to automate stealing all accounts? Only takes a few hundred requests apiece! Oooh, there's CC data, too, and its encryption keys!
Third, the gem does actually allow whitelisting associations, methods, etc. but ... well, the documentation actually recommends against it for whatever fucking reason, and that whitelisting is about as fine-grained as a club. You wanna restrict it to accessing the "name" column, but it needs to access both the "site" and "user" tables? Cool, users can now access site.name AND user.name... which is PII and totally leads to hefty fines. Thanks!
Fourth. If the gem can't access something thanks to the whitelist, it doesn't catch the exception and give you a useful error message or anything, no way. It just throws NoMethodErrors because fuck you. Good luck figuring out what they mean, especially if you have no idea you're even using the fucking thing.
Fifth. Thanks to the follower mentality prevalent in this hellhole, this shit is now used in a lot of places (and all indirectly!) so there's no searching for uses. Once I banhammer everything... well, loads of shit is going to break, and I won't have a fucking clue where because very few of these brainless sheep write decent test coverage (or even fucking write view tests), so I'll be doing tons of manual fucking testing. Oh, and I only have a week to finish everything, because fucking of course.
So, in summary. The stupid and lazy (and legendary!) dev fucked up. The stupid gem's author fucked up, and kept fucking up. The stupid devs followed the first fuckup's lead and repeated his fuck up, and fucked up on their own some more. It's fuckups all the fucking way down.rant security exploit root swears a lot actually root swears oh my stupid fucking people what the fuck fucking stupid fucking people9 -
Send an email.
Or, more seriously: invite only people who must be there, and can add something to the discussion, have an agenda, stick to it, and plan the meeting so that it ends at the start of lunch break. That way everybody will be interested in finishing on time or earlier. -
I was finally able to fix this other persons code when I accepted the fact that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing

It's 6am and I've already started my work day because I am my most productive first thing in the morning. When they debate against WFH and flexibility, they don't talk about how different people feel more awake and present at different times. I know devs who work better in the dead of the night. 9 to 5 in office just ain't it.6

Does something like this exist in the NodeJS ecosystem:
- Reads js-based ORM model definitions (e.g. ones defined by sequelize.define())
- Syncs the database's tables with said model definitions without using migrations
I've built something like this and it seems revolutionary, but I wanna make sure I'm not reinventing the wheel.4 -
hello, does someone know what i need to install an openshift cluster in an minimal version?

Sometimes I really wonder about the elites supporting the woke culture, BLM movement, to the point saying "All lives matter" they go nuts is rather sinister. ie push the needle too far beyond the cringyness and use reverse psychology mechanism to bring maximum hatred as possible to the opposing group to the point of creating wars and conflict
There is a saying that goes "Only a crisis - actual or perceived - produces real change." So could be that to bring back the war economy.
I mean history is filled with such tactics on a grand scale: Nero, Hitler, Neocons such as strauses, Wolfowitz (lookup wolfowitz leaked doctrine), drumsfied, nuland leading the Iraq war (it did bring people together for a while before they realize it was a sham). And now same thing with China and Russia.
It makes no sense otherwise for the elitists to support it.2 -
