Brand New HarmonyOS Font

Based on users' reading feedback on multiple terminals in different scenarios, a brand new default font — HarmonyOS Sans — has been designed for HarmonyOS with a variety of considerations, including the dimensions of different devices, usage scenarios, and different users' requirements for font size and weight due to differences in line-of-sight and angle-of-view.

Brand New Font Typeface Design

A new balance between humanities and modernity has been found on the premise of ensuring the font functionality. Short strokes are kept simple, and long strokes, such as left-falling, right-falling, hook, and turning strokes, are blended with the calligraphy aesthetics for a whole new typeface experience.

Optimizing the Optical Size for a Better Reading Experience

In the application scenarios of different devices, the optical size affects the readability in low-light environments, for small font sizes, and from long distances. Therefore, the optical size has been optimized to improve the eligibility of the font and thereby improve the reading experience in different scenarios.

Unified Multi-Language Typeface

We have redesigned the typeface of Chinese, Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, and Arabic writing systems, and enabled support for more than 100 languages, making the reading experience more consistent across multiple languages.

      More Font Weight Capabilities

HarmonyOS Sans supports the thin, light, bold, and black font weights. Users can select their desired font weights to construct a hierarchy of information.

      Equal-Width and Variable-Width Digital Fonts

HarmonyOS Sans supports both proportional figures and tabular figures. In text mixing, the default proportional figures are used, which improves reading coherence in text paragraph reading. Tabular figures are used in scenarios where the values need to be emphasized and data needs to be frequently changed in tables and clock digits. This ensures the alignment of digit width and a better graphical display.

      Clock Font Features

HarmonyOS Boldface supports clock font features. For example, the colon format is automatically adjusted based on the time format.

      Multi-Device Type Scale

Choosing the appropriate type scale helps define the information hierarchy and improve the readability of the content. Based on the study on the display environment of all-scenario devices and the differences across environments, a type scale system for constructing the information hierarchy has been defined for different device models.

      Text Alignment Rules

Different text alignment modes can guide users' visual flow direction. By default, left alignment is used to clearly display large paragraph text as people's viewing habit is from left to right. Center alignment better attracts users' attention than left alignment. As such, center alignment can be used for titles, descriptions on empty pages, and guide pages with illustrations to more effectively grab users' attention.
