CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCCU) — Demolition has started on East Daniel Street near the University of Illinois campus in Champaign.
The Espresso Royale that used to be on the corner is completely gone.
The old Kam's bar that closed in October is currently still standing; however, it will eventually come down.
The bar will be moving to a new location on Green Street, expected to open later this year.
The bar's owners plan to use as much of the nostalgic elements from the old building at the new location.
The NAACP held its second Minds in Motion Alzheimer awareness event on Friday.
The Springfield NAACP partnered with SIU to help raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's, and to also help get seniors up and moving.
They had multiple activities such as word searches, and puzzles played bingo, and even danced.
"So when you take them back to music from the 50s, 60s, and 70’s it’s like they wake up, they start thinking about how young they were and what were some of the things that they were doing at that time," said Teressa Haley, President NAACP Springfield Chapter.
The next Minds in Motion event is on Feb. 24 from 1-3:30 p.m. at the NAACP, 801 S. 11th Street.
Registration is required, email care@siumed.edu or call 217-545-7204.
