So I have been UBER'ing for a few days now, and everyone who gets into my car (07, EX-L) says how nice the car is, how smooth the ride is, how good it runs, quiet, smooth shifts ect.
People cannot believe my car is 11 years old with 162k on it. I have replaced all front suspension, changed fluids, ect. I usually put the front drivers seat up all the way to allow for Max room in the backseat. I do UBER as a side thing in the evenings/weekends and despite the negatives you read online, it can definately make you money depending on how long you want to drive and if you are in the surging areas $$$. So far all have been good experiences, you meet alot of cool people.... (Que the people that say wait until some drunk pukes in your car ,LOL)

Anyone Else UBER with there Accords? What is the consensus on the car? Obviously some people can careless about what you pick them up in, but some are blown away as most cars that drive (especially in NE Ohio) are total beaters/ Rust/ dented ect. I went to the airport and saw some poor condition oddyseys in that shape. I try to keep my car super clean in and out.
I feel like im a driving advertisment for Honda. People leave my car like "I gotta go look at one of these" Maybe I need Honda to sponsor me in the future since im a rolling endorsement for them.

According to Saluca's wife, the 7th gen Accord is "dated" haha. I have driven a ton of domestic and import rental cars, I am always happy to be back in the Accord.

I have gotten compliments before also. It rides like new after refreshing the front end suspension, which doesn't cost a ton.

I thought so too, but that is not the case. You give them registration and Insurance/ DL and they approve you and you start driving.
I think they only deny if you fail background check for felony or some other issue.

(Of side note we took an uber to the airport when we flew to FL this year and super old Toyota Van picked us up, I asked the driver and he said it was a 2004. CEL was on and it sounded like crap, belt was whining real bad when he would turn it, I noticed tires were bald...) So apparently they loosened up regulations, It used to be more strict from what I read.

Pass a vehicle inspection

They should AT LEAST do a vehicle inspection, in person or with facetime/pictures before approving it for taxi service. Bald tires is BAD. Most older toyota siennas I have worked on had 200,000+ miles on them, and didn't look like it.

Interesting! Yeah, i'm sure if I UBER'd with my accord that there would be people that would be too embarrassed to get in. :| Haven't had anyone make fun of me to my face(excluding parents), and 99% of the time when I fill up at the gas station no one says anything or even looks at me weird, so I don't really see what the problem would be. Wasn't planning on UBER in the first place though, it would ruin my gas mileage with the driving style adjustments I would need to make to not make passengers angry/fear for their lives. My dad could probably do UBER black with his MB E550 though.

@Das Chicken - you need to get a bumper sticker, something that reads like "Outfitted for max Mpg's".
EHHHH, I feel like it would draw unwanted attention. I have been noticing a lot of people taking pictures of my car lately. That might catch a cop's eye and give them a reason to pull me over and accuse me of coasting in neutral or some other bs. I have a few mini spoilers coming, one of them is probably going on the accord, as long as I can't see a reduction in fuel economy from it.

I'm also going to temporarily attach one to the hood and do a tuft test of it to see how it affects the airflow. Then i'm gonna throw one on my CBR 250R because having googly eyes on the muffler and a bicycle bell just isn't enough. Now I just need a costume to go along with it. :naughty: Motorcycle shenanigans are fun!

I quit after about a month. The math doesn't really work out to where it's worth doing when you factor in vehicle expenses, and it generally sucks that within 3 pings I end up 40 minutes from home and those return miles are unpaid.

Are you actually making any money? I read that someone with a Prius who Ubered professionally only broke even at the end of the year.

As for compliments, a lot of people like my 8th Gen Coupe. Some even preferred the look of 8th Gen Coupe to RX-8.
Call me mistrusting, but the only people I'd ever want in my car is people I know.
Even for people you know, sometimes they can be trouble, like if they are drunk...

I really don't think you'd make money if you drive anything with an engine bigger than a 4-pot.

Unless you @Das Chicken it, of course.

Yes, I make money. I know how to work it. I wait near the airport until it goes above 3x surge, then I turn on that im available when 30+ people are looking for an uber. I get a min of 3x fare, take them downtown (Most of the time) and repeat. A normal fare that would net, say 11$, I get 3x that fare. Trust me, its worth it. What I try to avoid is sitting downtown on a Saturday night and picking up drunks to go 2 miles to another bar. Total waste of time, unless you want people puking in your backseat...LOL. (experienced Uber drivers have barf bags in the seat holders)

You also have to know where the action is. I.E. if the CAVS are playing everyone is going to the Q to see Lebron James/ same with the Indians/ Browns...IX center, auto show ect......this weekend there is a ton of people here from the west Coast (Seattle, San Fran, LA) that are here for a wrestling event. They have the hotels booked up. So on Sunday morning when all of them need airport runs, ill be there in the 3x or more surge zone to drive them in my ultra sleek stylish i4 accord. You'd be suprised just making small talk, nets you tips most of the time. Oh and BTW, I always plug, Honda, Accords, and this site specifically...I say what a wealth of knowledge it is for anything accord.

Wouldnt be suprised to see some new 10th gen owners say "scar_cle ubered me to the airport and turned me on to Hondas" LOL. Mostly everyone says to me "honda or Toyota are the way to go, they run forever"

That answers my question, thanks.

Not that it would help me, as we don't have any rideshare programs in BC, Canada(cab company lobbyists wouldn't let them in), and my car is just way too fuel-inefficient, so I would only do it as a way to make a bit of gas money back if someone happens to go somewhere on my route.

If people like 7th Gens still... Hard to imagine what gen Accord they don't like.

My experience in PHX was that the airport perpetually has 80+ cars waiting, and rematches (people dropping off at the airport getting pings, bypassing the queue) makes it so you can maybe get 1 ride in an hour if you wait in the queue. Makes the 3x surge end up being the same as doing 3 regular rides in the same amount of time.

"Special" events end up being **** shows where you really don't want to drive in that area anyways. Waste tons of time trying to find your fare in the sea of people, tons of roads are shut down, tons of traffic, tons of buzzed pedestrians waiting to get hit. Not worth a 1.8x surge.

It sounds like you're in a market where there isn't that many drivers to begin with. All of the "hot" areas in PHX like downtown Scottsdale will have 4 drivers on every corner so there isn't really any "honey holes" or strategies that aren't already known by tons of people.

And in the end when you factor in tires, oil, fuel, etc. it comes out to about $8-$10 an hour even when I was getting tipped at a pretty steady pace.

Yes, we definately have a shortage of drivers here. Sometimes I will get a ping for someone 10 miles away. That should tell you how few we have. Plus I live outside city limits so im in a good area of people who want rides downtown..= All highway my car gets A+ mileage. (as do most accords)

And I was at the Airport last night. 3 cars waiting there no more... hence was it was over 3x. (I know what time most of the daily flights get in, 9:42pm, 10:51pm) Then there is always an influx.
When I was at EPCOT in FL, there was 40+ cars in line...just to give you an idea.

I have a small rust spot on my hood and one on the rear wheel well. Thats not a big deal..at least noone mentions anything to me.
Dealbreaker is the smoking, thats a big no-no. I dont know about Dents. I see lots of other Ubers with small dents here and there.
