History

Founded in 2008 originally as Students for Ron Paul, Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) is a libertarian-conservative student activism organization headquartered in Austin, Texas. YAL establishes chapters on high school and college campuses across the United States for the purpose of “advancing liberty on campus and in American electoral politics.” They are active on around 400 campuses in the USA.

Funded by / Ownership

The Young Americans for Liberty Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit; however, their Win at the Door Operation is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization. According to OpenSecrets, they only support Republican/Libertarian candidates. Donations and a store that sells conservative merchandise generate revenue. The website lacks transparency as they do not list top donors.

Analysis / Bias

The primary mission of YAL is to mobilize and train youth to promote a pro-liberty philosophy and help elect like-minded political candidates. Through the Win at the Door Operation, they select candidates that they feel are viable and support their conservative/Libertarian agenda and then fund them through their PAC. To date, they claim to have helped elect 179 candidates.

The website does not report news but serves as an informational website to promote their activism. However, they have published misinformation and false claims on social media, especially regarding Covid-19. See failed fact checks below. In general, they promote right biased information that is not always factual.
