Project List
This is a list of topics proposed by current graduate students interested in mentoring this semester.
Discrete Math
- (Extremal Combinatorics) This project will look at topics in extremal combinatorics (graph and poset theory) such as intersecting set, shadow minimization, maximum weight ideal, and isoperimetric theorems, as well as relationships between these problems in the hypercube.
- (Graph Theory) This project has a variety of options, such as: matchings, flows, Hamiltonian and Eulerian walks, colorings, shortest path algorithms, trees, planar graphs, and connectivity. A project exploring platonic graphs is also an option.
Applied Math
- (Linear Algebra and Differential Equations) This project will focus on applied analysis and applied linear algebra, or differential equations, depending on the student’s preference.
- (Calculus to Cohomology) How the big three of vector calculus arise from de Rham cohomology
- (Numerical Differential Equations and the Finite Element Method) In this project you will learn how to use numerics to solve PDEs
Math Biology
- (Epidemiology and Ecology) Two graduate students are interested in mentoring students in this field.
Algebra
- (Commutative Algebra) A general introduction to commutative algebra and ring theory.
