I’m the kind of nerd that loves making lists for the year end season. Part of this is because lists are how I’ve personally come to discover so much of the great wrestling that I enjoy today. I’ve talked about it in the past, but the Psychology is Dead year-end lists and the Handwerk Reviews Year in Lists have been foundational in introducing me to new material and influencing the way I write and discuss wrestling.

Ever since undertaking my own year end duties at the start of the decade, reevaluating my favorite matches of the year has been a key part of the process. Where last year, I went through every match I considered some level of great, I’m narrowing my focus for 2022. I’ll be talking about the very best of the best, matches that range in the Top 50 zone. At the same time, I’ll be revisiting matches that I think could deserve a second look to see if they might yet crack the list.

I’ve written a lot about wrestling that’s happened throughout the year, so wherever necessary I’ll link you to my initial thoughts to compare with where I am now. This is basically going to be a behind-the-scenes on the construction of my eventual year-end lists which is why I’m saving it for you, dearest paid subscribers.
