The danger with a bootstrap node is that if it is not authenticated, it could be malicious and perform a man-in-the-middle or eclipse attack. In Bitcoin Core, these bootstrap nodes are hard-coded as trusted DNS servers maintained by the core developers.

If there's any truth at all behind this, the decent thing to do would be to immediately disclose exactly what is the complete software stack and hardware running on the compromised device. Else it sounds like someone is just looking to drop the price some more to buy cheaper
