PINE RIDGE RESERVATION – Lakota Tech High School is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) School opening in Wolf Creek, SD August 2020. At Lakota Tech High School students will get the opportunity to explore their Lakota culture while gaining academic knowledge, technical abilities, and professional skills.

Students will earn industry recognized certifications, have hands-on work experiences, and have the opportunity to enroll in college credits while completing high school. Lakota Tech students will enter into the workforce with a competitive advantage!

Following their freshman experience, students will move into one of our targeted career academies, including Human Services, Health Sciences, Business, Industrial Arts, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Each student will start their educational career at Lakota Tech High School in the Freshman Academy. The Freshman Academy is designed to allow students to explore the various academies and pathways offered through Lakota Tech. Here, students find career interests and determine future academy enrollment by examining careers and lifestyle goals. Students will set life goals and plan a path to success with the assistance of supportive teachers. Throughout their career exploration, students visit career sites, college campuses, and gain real-world experience that will prepare them to make career decisions effectively.

Lakota Tech High School’s Human Services Academy focuses on the careers that service people and communities. There are three pathways within the Human Services Academy. These pathways include public safety, teaching and child development, and restaurant management. In the Public Safety pathway, students will experience criminal investigations and emergency response practices by working with local law enforcement professionals. In the Teaching and Child Development pathway, students will develop skills necessary to support the physical development, social-emotional well-being, and academic learning of children from birth to school age. Our third pathway, Restaurant Management, will allow students to develop, plan, and prepare full-service dining experiences across various settings.

Health Sciences Academy courses are designed for students to enter into the vast and ever-growing health industry. Students will design, conduct, and analyze a wide range of scientific experiments to solve medical mysteries. Because the academy specializes in the health care professions, students will connect learning to real-life by utilizing the terminology, tools, and technology used by nurses, doctors, and first responders. Students will experience hands-on activities in anatomy, cell biology, disease research, and medical technology to prepare them for a health career.

The Business Academy is for our students interested in finance, opening, or managing a business and will provide students with the skills and certifications necessary to do so. Students will work to become an entrepreneur by creating business plans and marketing campaigns using virtual and global strategies! Throughout their course work, students will utilize robust business and financial tools, software, and practices used by professionals. Experiences in real-world business situations will allow students to apply innovative strategies to solve issues.

The Industrial Arts Academy focuses on hands experiences developing the practices of those interested in skilled professions. Students will learn to operate construction technology that professionals use to build and repair projects in the classroom and a real-world setting. Throughout their course work, students will design and construct projects using machine tools to develop the skills necessary to be certified in their field!

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Academy is a wide-ranging technical academy that allows students to explore how science and math connect with the many tech careers. Students will develop key coding and computer skills necessary to draft and design innovative robotics and aviation technology. Student coursework will allow them to connect learning to life by utilizing knowledge of technology to solve the problems of the future. Students will have the skills needed to repair, maintain, and build various electronic equipment, including computers, robotics tools, and drones.

Academics will not be the only offerings at Lakota Tech. Students enrolled in Lakota Tech High School will participate in extracurricular sports and activities across the state, including Archery, Basketball, Band and Orchestra, Cheerleading, Chorus, Cross Country, Dance Clubs, e-Sports, Fine Arts, Football, Golf, Hand Games, Homecoming Activities, Prom Activities, Speech and Debate, Student Council, Track and Field, Visual Arts, Volleyball and more. Lakota Tech High School will work with students to explore additional activities of interest.

Enrollment for students in 9th-12th grade will begin in January 2020. Visit any Oglala Lakota County School or the Oglala Lakota County School District Offices in Batesland to register your student.
