Two sites broken.

[Giraffe]

Got a couple of sites which were OK about a month ago but now are broken. I've tried them in PM 29.4.5.1, MyPal that I installed out of curiosity and Pale Moon Portable that is as downloaded except for the home page - no other mods at all.

One site is britishgas.co.uk that locks up and crashes the browser; no more info as nothing works. It opens OK in Firefox ESR and Vivaldi.

The other is https://www.diy.com/ which sort of loads but is distorted and no images. I can navigate within it but not usefully. It too opens in FF and V but not in any form of Pale Moon.

The first, britishgas, doesn't crash my browser, but it does lock it up for a long time. Eventually I got the "stop script" dialog window which warned me about "polyfill.js" being unresponsive.
Maybe you can try blocking that script before visiting the site.

You don't, this is a draft feature that isn't yet implemented in Pale Moon so you'll have to use a different browser for such sites until it is.

What version is Firefox ESR? If it's reasonably recent (60 or so) it's after the Googlification of the browser, so it works because it's basically Chrome, just like Vivaldi.

I had digged deeper (but not too deep) in the britishgas lock up and I discovered a monstrosity that will work only on Chrome, so better give up on it. And no, sending mails probably won't change anything unless the number is significant relative to the number of their customers: the site is using their own in-house framework, so all they are doing is intentional.

The other site it's a matter of waiting until the Google regex parser is glued into Pale Moon.

Got a couple of sites which were OK about a month ago but now are broken. I've tried them in PM 29.4.5.1, MyPal that I installed out of curiosity and Pale Moon Portable that is as downloaded except for the home page - no other mods at all.

One site is britishgas.co.uk that locks up and crashes the browser; no more info as nothing works. It opens OK in Firefox ESR and Vivaldi.

That britishgas one locked up my entire system for a few minutes. That is one nasty nasty website.

B & Q (www.diy.com) was working for me until a few days ago but now displays very little of its content and its buttons don't work. I see the same JavaScript error mentioned above.

British Gas has never allowed me to view my account when logged in. That's more of a deal breaker as without that access I can't view or pay my bills. I have to use Opera instead.

Unfortunately, these large companies are powerful enough to insist we do things their way as we have little choice. We need heat and light and can't just walk away as I would from a smaller company using an incompetent website designer with eccentric coding techniques. When the big boys do it browsers have to work because customers have nowhere else to go. That's a headache when new and non-standard technology becomes fashionable in the marketing world.

In many respects I'm a standards purist - that's why I use Pale Moon - but I can't use anything without electricity and I need a non-standard browser to pay my bill!

Just saw this over the weekend as my elderly neighbour has been having dealings with British Gas.

Their web site crashes PM. At first I thought it was just one of those glitches but I can confirm it happens every time.
