Windows: Using Command Prompt Manually Remove Older Files Incompatible With Memory Integrity

  1. If there is no software installed, proceed to step 3.
  2. If there is software installed, please uninstall all WD software.
    For instructions, please refer to Answer ID 4158: How to Uninstall and Remove WD Discovery on Windows and macOS, Uninstall or remove apps and programs in Windows 10 & Windows 11.
  3. Click in the Windows search box.
  4. Type cmd

  5. When the option "Command Prompt App” comes up right-click and select "Run as administrator".
  6. The Administrator: Command Prompt will pop up to the following c:\Windows\System32 folder

  7. Change the directory. Type cd C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

  8. Press the <enter> key on the keyboard.

  9. Type pnputil /delete-driver wdcsam

    Image

  10. There may be more than 1 wdcsam foldername.
  11. Press the <tab> key on the keyboard. This will fill out the rest of the wdcsam foldername. Please note the names vary from system to system.

  12. After the <tab> key has filled out the wdcsam foldername, type /uninstall /force

  13. Press the <enter> key on the keyboard.
    The following message should be displayed:

  14. Repeat steps 8-12 until there are no more wdcsam foldernames in your current folder.

  15. Reboot the computer.
  16. Enable memory integrity.
