For administrators who manage Chromebooks for a school.
As an admin, you can use your Google Admin console to deploy Minecraft: Education Edition to your managed users on Chromebooks. Then, users can learn, play, and collaborate using Minecraft: Education Edition.
Before you begin
- You need a Minecraft: Education Edition license for each user that you want to deploy the app to. For information, check the Minecraft: Education Edition support website.
- Users can sign in to the Minecraft: Education Edition app in 3 ways:
- Users can sign in to their Chromebook with their Google Account. Then they manually sign in to the app using their Microsoft account. To avoid needing to sign in every time, users can save their Microsoft username and password in the Minecraft app.
- Users can be automatically signed into the app on their Chromebook with their Google Account if you use SAML Federation to link their Microsoft account (as service provider) to their Google Account (as identity provider).
- Users can sign in to their Chromebook and the app with their Microsoft account if you use SAML Federation to link their Google account (as service provider) to their Microsoft account (as identity provider).
- Apps are deployed to users based on the organizational unit that they belong to. So, users can use approved apps, including Minecraft:Education Edition, if they sign in to Chromebooks that are not enrolled to your domain using their managed Google Account.
- Don’t use Minecraft: Education Edition on devices that are configured to erase all local user info, settings, and state after each sign-out. In other words, devices that are in ephemeral mode.
- We recommend that you use the Minecraft: Education Edition app on Chromebooks that have at least 4GB of memory and are assigned to a single student (vs. shared carts).
- To make settings for a specific group of users or enrolled Chrome browsers, put the user accounts or browsers in a group or organizational unit. Only user accounts can be added to groups. For details, see Groups and Add an organizational unit.
