Nvidia User. NO $DISPLAY VARIABLE

Hello . I'm in Arch with zen kernel. I have installed nvidia-drivers. I just found out I have no $DISPLAY variable set. Echoing $DISPLAY results blank. I have removed /etc/environment file. I wanted to run a pure Wayland session so I have not installed xorg-xwayland

Can't open glxgears nor vkcube.

glxgears:

couldn't open display (null)

vkcube:

Environment variable DISPLAY requires a valid value.

Is Xwayland running? If you have xwayland disable in your sway config, comment it out.

As other comments say, DISPLAY is an xorg thing.

Is there a good reason not to use xwayland? I don't even notice which apps are wayland-native and which are xorg. Why disable a compatibility layer?

How do you group a section of windows?

Lets says workspace 1 has three windows. a|b|c
How can I combine b&c into a group and make them tabbed without including a?

Need help with screensharing

Hey!I am trying to get screensharing to work on my sway session.

I installed pipewire, pipewire-media-session, xdg-desktop-portal and xdg-desktop-portal-wlr

Made sure to include /etc/sway/config.d/50-systemd-user.conf

I am also starting sway via dbus and export the following variables:

export QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=1
export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland
export QT_WAYLAND_DISABLE_WINDOWDECORATION=1
export GDK_BACKEND=wayland
export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=sway
export _JAVA_AWT_WM_NONREPARENTING=1
export MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1
export XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland
export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=sway

When I try to start a screenshare via firefox or any other app, I only get a black screen.

There is nothing unusual in the systemctl status for the beforementioned services. It even reports that it connected successfully and streaming with x fps the last 5 seconds.

Can anyone point me in another direction? Running out of ideas O:

how to terminate session, dbus, pipewire on exit from sway

I was using gdm to start sway. I installed greetd and gtkgreet using the arch wiki config with sway.

I can log in fine, and the greetd config has swaymsg exit:

`exec "gtkgreet -l; swaymsg exit"`

But after I log in to my user session, the dbus for the greeter session keeps running and pipewire, xdg-portal, polkit, the accessibility dbus, gnome-keyring, gvfs. All that stuff keeps running for the greeter user.

If I log into my normal user with sway, it runs all that stuff for the normal user. If I log out of sway it goes back to greetd, but also leaves all that stuff running for the normal user that I logged out.

How do I terminate that stuff when sway exits?

UPDATE:

using KillUserProcesses=yes in login.d works for the greeter user but not for the normal user. (see https://www.reddit.com/r/swaywm/comments/v0g2yo/comment/iaj75u7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

meh...it wasn't working for the normal user because I was logged in through ssh, so not fully logged out on that user.

Why would my $mod key shortcuts not work on one specific application?

Sorry if this is obvious. I'm a long time i3 user, first time Sway/Wayland user as of today.

I was able to import most of my config without any issues and so far I'm loving Sway. It feels SO much smoother than i3 in day to day use.

I am however running into one issue. For whatever reason, none of my keyboard shortcuts work when the currently focused window is Google Chat. I'm not sure why this is the case. I'm still able to click out of it with the mouse and drag the window around, etc. but absolutely no shortcut leveraging the Super key seems to work. As far as I can tell, this only occurs in Google Chat. The chat app was installed via chrome as a web app, but has its own .desktop entry, etc.

Any help would be appreciated! This one is driving me bananas.

[waybar] I'm trying to make a powerline, but no matter what I do, I can't

Hi everybody, I am using EndeavourOS, Sway spin, and I am trying to make my waybar look like a powerline. No matter what font I use, what config I take, I cannot manage to do what I want, there is always space between the triangles needed to make the powerline.

Here is my config. You can find the two tries that I saved. The current config and style.css are not powerline.

Here is a screenshot of the problem.

Edit: [Solved] - there were a couple of problems:

for colors the issue was with the GTK theme, solved by changing it in the swaywm config
for triangles distance, the problem was padding, I had to explicitly put it as 0px
to get rid of the bottom "border" I had to delete the box-shadow on style.css

Does anyone use Fuzzel? Issues with removed programs still showing up.

I recently uninstalled Chrome from the AUR and installed it from Flatpak. Now I have two "Google Chrome" entries in Fuzzel and only one of them opens Chrome. Does anyone know how to reset Fuzzel or remove an entry?

Quit selected window via CLI

Hi,

how can I close the selected window via CLI. I didn't found a parameter for swaymsg and I am not sure how quit-window is related to this. I thought about something like "swaymsg current-window close".

Why: I wanna set a gesture to kill the selected window.

WTF, WHY?: Since when I do some math homeworks for the university, I like to control my pc mainly with the touchpad.

Waybar became bigger after update

I recently updated waybar, and it became bigger. The font size stayed the same, but the height increase, as did the paddings or margins around all buttons. I have a HiDPI display with scale 2, and it's like all paddings and margins started getting scaled twice (but not text).

Reducing them in the css seems to help somewhat, but I can't get it to look like it did before the update.
