Before I start let me clarify that my Japanese is hilariously basic at best, so while I could follow the plot (being well versed in the show helps a lot) I probably got some of the most specific details wrong, so bear that in mind.

The story starts with Lotte, one of Akko's roommates, chatting late at night with her online friend and fellow 'Nightfall' fan GreatBen810. As you can guess, the story revolves heavily around her.

During their conversation GreatBen810 asks Lotte about her summer plans, and mentions a coming event related to the books. The event in question is actually a star alignment that happens every century or so and that figures prominently on one of the 'Nightfall' books.

The next morning, Akko, Sucy and Lotte are discussing their summer plans. This story takes place during their first summer vacation, between episodes 7 & 8, so it's literally a few days/weeks after the events of Chamber of Time. This detail will be important later.

Akko, being the magnanimous and selfless friend that she is, asks Lotte if there's anywhere she wants to go. While hesitant at first, Lotte remembers her conversation with GreatBen810 and proposes they travel to a Stone circle (Stonehenge) to witness the star alignment.

Problem is, the Stone Circle in question is quite far and there are no Leylines close to it, so Broom travel is more or less out of the question. Regardless, Lotte, followed by Akko and Sucy, decides to ask Prof. Finnelan for permission to stay off campus. She refuses.

It is then that Prof. Ursula comes to save the day. Since it is to witness a once-in-a-century Astrological event and she IS the Astrology teacher, she proposes to take the three girls on a field trip to the Stone circle.

It takes some convincing but Ursula persuades Prof. Finnelan, under the condition that it'll remain an academic pursuit and they are to present a report of what they learned on their journey upon their return. They agree to it, much to Akko's chagrin.

And thus, the girls prepare themselves for their Summer field trip, with Akko packing everything but the kitchen sink while Lotte can't wait to witness the event from her beloved book series. Sucy doesn't care either way.

While they are still packing, Hanna & Barbara pass by after hearing of their trip, which they overheard of since the trio kept their door open. Hannah is mostly there to make fun of them, but Barbara, being a closeted Nightfall fan, is genuinely curious about it.

Either way, the girls finally depart and meet up with Prof. Ursula in the town. They are surprised to see Ursula waiting for them in a car. Akko is ecstatic but she quickly clarifies that it is a rental. Regardless, Ursula assures them she knows how to drive and they depart.

To no one's surprise, Ursula barely knows anything about cars. She knows how to drive one, but that's about it, which becomes apparent once they run out of gas. And thus, the girls become stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Worry not, Ursula figures there's a gas station nearby, so she hops on her broom and promise to come back soon with gasoline for the car. By the time she returns, it as almost nightfall, which does delays their schedule a bit. Still, the journey continues.

It is already late and they are still on the road. There's a bit of a back and forth as Ursula tries to figure out how to turn on the headlights. She success eventually, but now Akko is hungry.

No problemo! Being the dependable teacher she is, Ursula brought some sandwiches for their trip! Akko excitedly looks for them in the back... only to be disappointed once she realize they are Potato salad sandwiches.

For those not in the know, this gag is a riff on the fact that Luna Nova's menu is 90% potatoes, much to Akko's eternal chagrin.

Anyways, the plot continues. After a few hours of driving and with the Star alignment upon them, Ursula comes to the conclusion that they are officially lost. Also, Akko is hungry. Again.

They stop by an old house not too far from the road to ask for directions. They are welcomed by a nice old lady who invites them to stay for dinner. I know what you're thinking and no, this is not a horror story.

While having the feast of their dreams (even Sucy is impressed), the Old Lady expresses her joy at seeing a group of Witches after so long, even if they are students. Apparently people rarely come by this place anymore, and Lotte reveals the purpose of their trip.

Much to their surprise and to Lotte's excitement, the Old Lady is also a 'Nightfall' fan and provides them with directions to the stone circle. She also mentions that she had seen the Star alignment before, but she's too old now to make the trip now. The plot thickens.

They bid their goodbyes for now, and reach the destination of their journey. They camp in the place, and eventually witness the Star alignment in the stone circle, just as Lotte dreamed of.

The purpose of their journey fulfilled, they return to the Old Lady's house to thank her for her hospitality. Except she's nowhere to be found. Turns out she was a ghost.

Or at least that was Sucy's take. Still, the house is empty and there's no trace of the old Lady... Except for a single letter Ursula finds. And the plot thickens further.

*I could barely get this part so there's inaccuracies* Basically, the old lady simply returned to her proper time and place. Yes, time. She was a time traveler who used the power of the Horologium chamber to travel to the future and witness the star alignment one last time.

That is why she was overjoyed to meet Akko and the others. She was happy to see Witches still had a future. And thus she left with no regrets... and moments later the old house disappears as well. The Old Lady was actually a Witch.

Side note: You can see from this plot point how this story ties back to the game; the eponymous Chamber of Time is the Horologium Chamber, a secret room in Luna Nova Academy that holds the Magic of Time.

And thus the Journey ends and the girls along with Prof. Ursula make their way to Luna Nova Academy, where an absolutely furious Prof. Finnelan awaits them since their overnight trip was much longer than that. (The car broke down again.)

Story's not over yet. During the epilogue Akko is still working on her report of their journey when they are visited Amanda, who just returned from a trip with Constanze and Jasminka's to the later's hometown and tries to convince them to sneak out that night and hit the club.

They refuse, but then Hannah & Barbara drop by, mostly because Barbara is curious about how their journey went, under the pretense that Finnelan asked them to check on their progress... And then Ursula also drops by to check on them because she also had to write a report.

Then, during the second epilogue, we catch up with Lotte reminiscing about their journey while telling GreatBen810 all about it. Before saying goodbye, GreatBen810 sends her a picture of her own trip... A trip to the beach, where she is still wearing her Big Ben costume.
